Schalke have confirmed their interest in Switzerland international Gokhan Inler, but reports claiming they have already agreed terms with the Napoli midfielder have been denied.

On Thursday, football magazine Reviersport announced that Inler would be moving to the Bundesliga, but Swiss tabloid Blick said an agreed three-year deal had yet to be signed.

"We are in contact with Schalke, but there can be no talk of a signature," Dino Lamberti, Inler's agent, told the paper, which named Leicester City, West Ham and Besiktas as other possible destinations.

"We have other offers, and I expect a decision next week.

"I will now take a closer look at the infrastructure of the different clubs, and will talk to the coaches and sporting directors. We'll make a decision after that."

Sporting executive Horst Heldt confirmed Schalke's interest in Inler, who would cost around €6.5 million, saying: "He's on our radar."

Under Andre Breitenreiter's new Schalke regime, talks between incoming players and the former Paderborn coach have become mandatory before a deal can be struck.

"That's a requirement for me," the 41-year old told a news conference in Gelsenkirchen on Thursday, in which he praised the 31-year-old Inler as "a ball-winning box-to-box player."

Heldt also all but ruled out selling youngster Leon Goretzka to Southampton, rejecting rumours in German tabloid Bild.

He said: "If there had been an offer, Leon and us would have immediately rejected it."
