Havard Nordtveit to leave Gladbach for England amid West Ham links

Havard Nordtveit has confirmed he will leave Borussia Monchengladbach on a free transfer this summer amid reports he has agreed to join West Ham United.

Nordtveit, 25, joined Gladbach from Arsenal in January 2011 and has impressed in his 144 Bundesliga appearances for the club, leading to speculation about a return to the Emirates Stadium as well as reported interest from clubs including Tottenham, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

Kicker and Bild reported at the weekend that the defensive midfielder has agreed a move to West Ham and, although he did not confirm his destination, Nordtveit has said he will be leaving Borussia-Park for England when his deal expires at the end of the season.

"The decision to leave Gladbach has been incredibly difficult for me," the Norway international, who can also play at centre-back or right-back, told Bild. "I love the club and the fans.

"I was under contract at Arsenal when I was 17, and the Premier League is a dream for every Norwegian. It is rated highly."

Gladbach are currently fourth in the Bundesliga and on course to return to the Champions League next season, while West Ham are two points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the Premier League.
