Chelsea targeting move for Germany left-back Jonas Hector - sources

Chelsea are interested in a move for Germany left-back Jonas Hector, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

The Blues are in the market for a new left-back after allowing Baba Rahman to join Schalke on loan for the season and Cologne defender Hector has been identified as Antonio Conte's top target.

Hector has established himself as first-choice left-back for Germany and played in every game for his country at Euro 2016 this summer.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Liverpool this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in a left-back as competition for Alberto Moreno.

However, sources said Chelsea are now ready to move in and try steal Hector from under the noses of their Premier League rivals.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been used as Chelsea's left-back for the last two seasons, but Conte could prefer a natural player in that position, especially if he decides to change formations and play 3-5-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Any move for Hector has been complicated with Cologne extending Hector's contract last week, but sources said the fact he signed a new deal will not put off Chelsea making a move for the defender.
