Swansea sign Lyon's Bafetimbi Gomis

Swansea City have confirmed the signing of France striker Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon, subject to international clearance.

The Swans initially tried to bring Gomis to the Liberty Stadium last season but after failing to push a deal through opted for Wilfried Bony instead.

Bony enjoyed an excellent debut season in South Wales and has been linked with a move away from the club, speculation that is unlikely to be dampened by the arrival of Gomis, 28.

Swansea confirmed the free transfer signing on their official website, with Gomis penning a four-year contract with the Swans./p>

Gomis joined Lyon from Saint-Etienne in a 13million-euro deal in 2009 and scored 22 goals last season but did not earn a World Cup call from national team coach Didier Deschamps, leaving him on 12 caps.

In total, he managed 62 goals in 172 appearances for Lyon but declined the club's proposed new contract as he received numerous offers, including from the Premier League.

Gomis had been a long-term target too for Swansea's Premier League rivals Newcastle, but talks between the Magpies and the player's representatives failed to broker a deal.
