Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa is wasting his time at Malaga, says Mexico football icon Hugo Sanchez.

The Real Madrid legend said that Ochoa needed to have "shown more fangs" in the competition to unseat Cameroon keeper Carlos Kameni for the club's starting role.

In 2014, Ochoa started for El Tri at the World Cup and his performances in goal helped Mexico advance to the round of 16. Signed to a contract by Malaga in Spain following the tournament, he has languished on the bench, as Kameni has been playing well. Ochoa hasn't had any playing time in La Liga since joining the club.

"The fact that he has had this chance plus the experience of three seasons in France with Ajaccio that has been enough time for him to get used to Europe," Sanchez told ESPN.mx. "But I think he needs to show his fangs more. One of the greatest goalkeepers is from Cameroon, [Thomas] N'Kono. And if Kameni can get coaching from N'Kono, that is a problem too.

"Kameni is better positioned and he is showing a better level of football [than Ochoa is] since he arrived. He has improved a lot."

Sanchez has been critical of Mexico players in Europe in the past and most recently criticised Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez for not being aggressive enough while he was on loan to Real Madrid.

"'Chicharito' had the mission to convince Real Madrid and Malaga is doing the same with Ochoa," the 57-year-old said. "Kameni is showing his pride and playing better every day. So I think Memo Ochoa is wasting his time in Spain."
