Leicester in talks to sign Kelechi Iheanacho from Man City - sources

Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is closing in on a move to Leicester City, sources close to the Etihad outfit have told ESPN FC.

Iheanacho's future at City has been the subject of speculation this summer with the player struggling to establish himself in Pep Guardiola's plans.

The Nigeria international started only one game for City in 2017 -- the very first match of the year against Burnley. He was pushed down the pecking order by the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, and couldn't force his way into his manager's thoughts when the Brazil international was sidelined for two months with a broken foot.

West Ham expressed an interest, but sources have told ESPN FC that they are no longer interested and have moved onto other targets.

That has cleared the path for Leicester to land the 20-year-old, and they are in advanced talks with Manchester City over a £25 million deal.

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare is keen to strengthen his attacking options this summer and he sees Iheanacho as an ideal partner for Jamie Vardy.

Iheanacho joined Man City's academy in 2014 after impressing with Nigeria at the Under-17 World Cup, but he had to wait until 2015 to play for the club due to work permit issues.

He broke into Man City's first team in the 2015-16 season and has scored 21 goals in 64 appearances with many of them coming off the bench.

He would become Leicester's third signing of the summer, with Vicente Iborra signing for the Foxes on Thursday to add to the earlier capture of Hull City's Harry Maguire.
