Sacred Heart edges Maine 69-68 in OT

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Joseph Lopez led a balanced attack with 11 points, four in overtime, and Sacred Heart edged Maine 69-68 on Sunday in a consolation game of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off.

Sean Hoehn only scored four points but he had an opening layup and what proved to be the winning free throws with 15.9 seconds to play for the Pioneers (1-3).

Aaron Calixte, who had 18 points for Maine (0-4), made two free throws at 8.4 seconds left but after Lopez missed the front end of a one-and-one at 7.6, the Black Bears couldn't get off a potential winning shot.

Regulation ended in a similar fashion. Celio Araujo missed a pair of free throws for Maine with 16 seconds left and Lopez muscled to the hoop to tie the game at 59 with 6.3 to play but the Black Bears lost the ball without getting off a final shot.

Mario Matsovic and reserves Zach Radz and Alex Watson had 10 points apiece for the Pioneers and E.J. Anosike came off the bench to snag 17 rebounds to go with eight points.

Ilker Er had his first double-double for Maine with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
