Match Commentary

82'ESPN's Martyn Thomas had this to say straight from Murrayfield:

"Scotland have their first home Six Nations win for over three years, and it will live long in the memory. Vern Cotter's side were asked questions at every turn. They conceded the first try, saw their fly-half depart injured and then let France in again just as they appeared to have seized control of the contest. However, Scotland stood up at every turn. Having conceded a try late in the first half, Stuart Hogg hit a nerveless long-range penalty to give them the first points of the second. When Maxime Marchenaud narrowed the deficit to six and then three points, their defence held firm. Tim Visser's try confirmed a first win over France in a decade and it was fitting that Richie Gray, Greig Laidlaw and Hogg were all involved. Scotland will now prepare for Ireland with genuine belief and optimism.
81'And thanks to that Scotland win, England have now won the Six Nations, the first time the title's ever been won with a complete round still to go!

It's done! FULL TIME!
81'+129-18 End of second half
80'Another Scotland scrum to finish the game. No doubt this'll be over any second...
79'Scotland survive the storm from the scrum and throw the ball back to Hogg, who successfully smashes it clear. At the same time, he's just been announced as the man of the match. He's been fantastic today.
78'Substitute on - Tim Swinson , Scotland
78'Player substituted - Richie Gray , Scotland
77'France have a shout for a try and Fickou does infact touch down beyond the line, but he's deemed to have knocked it on when collecting Medard's pass. The referee's brought play back for the scrum.
76'Driving maul works well, but not well enough as Scotland continue to battle at keeping them out from five metres...
75'Scotland penalised for not releasing and France have punted a kickable penalty into the corner for a chance at the lineout. Time is running out for Les Bleus.
75'Substitute on - Sebastien Bezy , France
75'Player substituted - Maxime Machenaud , France
75'29-18 Penalty goal - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
74'And France are caught out again in the scrum as they're penalised for collapsing. Laidlaw to kick the three points!
73'Not for long though as Loann Goujon's penalised for knocking on. Another Scottish scrum.
73'Player substituted - WP Nel , Scotland
73'Substitute on - Moray Low , Scotland
72'We're in the French 22 now, but Scotland have let possession slip and it's in the grasp of the French pack.
71'Scotland have the penalty after France falter. Hogg kicks upfield and Scotland can look to finally put this game to bed with another try.
70'And a third...
70'Player substituted - Guilhem Guirado , France
70'Substitute on - Camille Chat , France
69'And another... Scotland with the ball, Laidlaw feeding their seventh scrum of the afternoon.
69'Substitute on - Maxime Medard , France
69'Player substituted - Maxime Mermoz , France
69'Player substituted - Francois Trinh-Duc , France
69'Substitute on - Jules Plisson , France
68'Scrap that, we've got a scrum to settle proceeding and calm that little bit of urgency.
68'Substitute on - Stuart McInally , Scotland
68'Player substituted - Ross Ford , Scotland
66'SCOTLAND TRY!

Great try. Long, long pass from Laidlaw requires a jumping Stuart Hogg to flick it on further to Visser down the left flank. That pretty much came out of nowhere, the game's been pretty stale the past few moments but that'll hopefully spur it into life site.
66'26-18 Try - Tim Visser , Scotland
65'Finally something to keep the fans engaged. Scotland turn the lineout into rapid attack and we could be onto something here...
65'Player substituted - Vincent Pelo , France
65'Substitute on - Jefferson Poirot , France
65'Substitute on - Loann Goujon , France
65'Player substituted - Yacouba Camara , France
63'If it's not in a scrum or a lineout, the ball just seems stuck in the midfield. Both sides can't keep possession for longer than about 30 seconds, and neither seem to be able to make something of the ball when they do have it.
62'Player substituted - Josh Strauss , Scotland
62'Substitute on - Vincent Pelo , France
62'Player substituted - Rabah Slimani , France
62'Substitute on - Ryan Wilson , Scotland
62'Player substituted - Jefferson Poirot , France
62'Substitute on - Uini Atonio , France
61'Scotland can't keep the ball for long and France have been gifted another go at the throw-and-catch manoeuvre.
60'Taken well but after a couple of inside passes, Richie Gray shuts down the move and helps his side regain possession. Scotland to attack.
59'Lineout France.
58'Scotland instantly trying to make amendsfor that French three points by opting to try and shift the ball down Hogg's channel, but France are holding tight... for now.
58'21-18 Penalty goal - Maxime Machenaud , France
57'Makes it! Superb kick!
56'France have the penalty just inside the Scottish half, and in Hogg-style, they too are trying for the sticks. Admittedly it's not as far out as Hogg, but it's still a monster kick that's required from Machenaud.
55'Just when the French look like threatening once again, a handling error from France again shifts the ball -- and the momentum -- back in Scotland's favour.
54'Ruined! Trinh-Duc is delivered the ball, attempts a crossfield kick the incoming Fofana but it's closed down! However, referee's brought it back for an earlier penalty for France and they've opted to kick again for the lineout rather than take a 5m scrum.
53'Driving maul pushes well and France are just inches away from a try...!
52'France have the lineout now deep in Scotland territory...
52'Player substituted - Alexandre Flanquart , France
52'Substitute on - Sebastien Vahaamahina , France
52'21-15 Penalty goal - Maxime Machenaud , France
50'France penalty again now as Scotland's Hardie is penalised for coming in at the side. This time it's in kicking distance.
49'And France now have the penalty as Scotland are deemed to have not been driving straight. Too far for a go at the sticks, so flyhalf Trinh-Duc has gone for the corner.
48'France scrum for a Scotland knock-on.
47'Fantastic kick. Makes it and adds a further three points on to Scotland's score. I'm sure that'll please a few peoples fantasy teams as well...
47'21-12 Penalty goal - Stuart Hogg , Scotland
46'Hogg's teeing this kick up fro 56m!
45'Even more scrum difficulties, but Scotland have been awarded the penalty as France are deemed to have been standing up in the scrum.
44'Scrum difficulties...
43'Scrum time!
42'Long crossfield kick from Laidlaw can't be met by Scottish hands so it's back to the French having possession.
42'Kick = successful! 18-12 half time score.
41'First penalty is already be gifted Scotland's way as France as penalised for not releasing. However, it's in Scotland's half so a points-kicking opportunity isn't available. Scotland lineout just outside the French 22.
41'FRANCE TRY!

And there we have it! It was coming, it must be said. France kept pushing and pushing and eventually Scotland couldn't keep holding firm. Gael Fickou breaks the line in the left corner and adds the five points for France. Just what they needed before the break.
41'+218-12 End of first half
41'+218-12 Conversion - Maxime Machenaud , France
41'+118-10 Try - Gael Fickou , France
40'We're back underway here at Murrayfield.
40'Lineout and driving maul is quickly dissembled by Scotland, but that doesn't completely halt France's attacking efforts. They've built it well and shifted it the opposite flank -- just looking for that break in Scotland's line...
40'18-12 Start of second half
39'Hands in the ruck from Scotland gifts France the kick for the corner and subsequent 5m lineout.
38'France trying to repair the damage straight away with their own little offensive adventure. Not getting anywhere with it, though.
38'18-5 Conversion - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
36'Laidlaw teeing up the kick.
36'16-5 Try - Duncan Taylor , Scotland
35'SCOTLAND TRY!

Well, that nearly came of nowhere! Duncan Taylor with a huge bombarding run down the right flank from inside his own half. France couldn't deal with his pace, and Peter Horne played an essential role running alongside protecting him from potential tacklers. Cotter's side in the driving seat now.
34'French on the attack now...
33'11-5 Try - Stuart Hogg , Scotland
32'SCOTLAND TRY!

Hogg scores! Some good work from Scotland and a big ball carry Richie Gray plays a big role in the creation of that try. Hogg is found down the left flank, but he has a lot of to still but does what is required excellently. Some great footwork and strong torso strength rejects two French tacklers near the line, ensuring that his name is on the try-scoring list.
31'They've built it to phase 12 and 5 metres out!
30'Fortunately it's taken successfully and doesn't require the reset. Scotland back to continuing their attacking movement down the right.
29'And just as we look to have some more free-flowing rugby, the referee's blown again for another scrum. Scotland's to feed.
28'Scotland proved the victors in that little scrum tussle. They're now firming out of their 22 and on the prowl down the right flank.
27'Scrum, again. Scotland's, again...
26'Machenaud makes a break for it, and after making some considerable ground, he's flattened back to the deck by Scotland. Last few minutes they've been pinned back in their 22. Tense affair.
25'Hogg kicks clear from the rear of the scrum, France lineout.
24'
23'Game is slowly down now and the referee's getting quite fond of his whistle. Scrum again, within Scottish 22. France have just made their fourth handling error.
22'Another knock-on from France and Scotland have the ball again to the scrum. They've had 70% possession so far.
22'6-5 Penalty goal - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
19'Scotland penalty after France are penalised for boring in. Laidlaw to take.
18'Scotland scrum after a French knock-on.
17'Back to the usual bashing in the centre of the pitch. Both sides playing with urgency but seem to be cancelling eachother out right now, Scotland definitely seem a bigger beast when playing at home though.
16'3-5 Penalty goal - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
15'After 15 phases, Laidlaw kicks to little success. However, ref's brought it back for an earlier advantage for Scotland after Guirado's penalised for not rolling away. Kicking opportunity for Laidlaw.
14'Scotland have been it phase 10, and despite the scoreline, they're definitely still looking the more composed side with the ball in hand. Let's see if they can make all this build-up pay. Just outside the French 22...
13'Stolen! France pinch the lineout but it's not long before the home side has the ball back. Midfield battle at the moment, constant bashing, constant barging, but little charging towards either tryline.
12'Lineout after lineout. Scotland's go now.
11'Missed.
10'Bit of scrap in the middle, and France have another penalty, and this time it's being lined up for the penalty by Trinh-Duc.
9'Another France lineout, and this time they execute far better. They're on half way now, though...
8'France fluff the lineout as a couple of poor handling errors ensures that the ball's swiftly gifted back to Scottish hands. Hogg kicks clear.
7'Scotland penalised for not releasing and France has the penalty. Opting to kick into the corner rather take that 45m penalty on from the tee.
6'Substitute on - Pete Horne , Scotland
6'Player substituted - Finn Russell , Scotland
5'0-5 Try - Guilhem Guirado , France
4'FRANCE TRY!

Down the right flank! Guirado scores again for France. Multiple missed tackles from Scotland's defense ultimately proves costly as they're cut open. Not a great start from Scotland -- five points down and Russell's already been subbed off through injury!
3'Looks like Finn Russell's dislocated his shoulder, and play's still go on around him and the medic. France attacking now...

We're into the lineouts now as Scotland opt to kick their way into French territory.
2'First two minutes = all Scotland.

Short, sharp passing from the home side just outside the French 22. There's urgency about their play, but admittedly that's not a surprise considering they're infront of the home crowd and full of energy. France will be wanting to just hold tight over the first 10 minutes then start to impose their own game.
1'ESPN's Martyn Thomas had this to say straight from Murrayfield:

"Scottish optimism gave way to fatalism after five minutes at Murrayfield as Guilhem Guirado finished off a flowing French move. Home hearts sank still further as fly-half Finn Russell disappeared up the tunnel before Francois Trinh-Duc could miss the conversion. But miss he did, and he would fluff a routine penalty too. Scotland took full advantage of the let off, showing great character to find their way back into the game, and then the lead. Tries from Stuart Hogg and Duncan Taylor crowned an impressive half's work but Gael Fickou's late score, and Maxime Machenaud's conversion, have given France hope. Scotland lead by six but are far from home and dry."

    Martyn's pre-game thoughts:

"Scotland's victory over Italy had many pundits instantly installing them as favourites to beat France. Les Bleus' performance in Cardiff undoubtedly contributed to that, and it does seem as though the momentum is with Cotter's side. There were wobbles in Rome, though, and the true test will come if the men in dark blue have a lead to defend going into the final stages. France will fancy themselves if they are within touching distance then, but expect Scotland to hold them off."
