Match Commentary

81'

We'll bring you further reaction to Ireland's win over Scotland but for now, the rugby keeps on coming.

Hop over to our live coverage of Italy-Wales to see if Warren Gatland's side can extend their winning run to 11 matches. Bye for now!

81'That's it. Scotland knock it on to end the game. Ireland get back to winning ways after shutting the game down in the second half. Mistakes and penalties from Scotland cost them, as they lost at home in the Six Nations for the first time since 2016. But Ireland's Six Nations defence is back on track.
81'+113-22 End of second half
80'Maybe not, Scotland win it back as the clock turns into the red. Chance for a losing bonus point, perhaps?
79'Oh dear, that wasn't pretty from Scotland, as Maitland's forward pass dribbles out of touch. Ireland get the scrum and will see it out from here.
77'More frustration for Scotland, who have not got things going in the second half. Seymour knocks it on as they tried to build inside their area. However, the win a penalty of their own following the scrum. Russell clears into touch, but Ireland win it back from the lineout.
77'Substitute on - John Cooney , Ireland
77'Player substituted - Conor Murray , Ireland
75'Ireland are smart. They manage possession inside their 22 before Murray hooks it clear. They force the turnover as Scotland concede another penalty on halfway, this time through Jamie Ritchie who came into the side of a ruck. Carbery kicks into the Scottish half.
73'Substitute Ali Price pins Ireland into their own 10 with a kick down the left wing. The visitors will have the throw but the Scots will look to win it back and get some quick points on the board.
72'Scotland have a scrum just inside their own half. It has to be reset, which is not what Scotland want as the clock is ticking...
72'Player substituted - Rory Best , Ireland
72'Substitute on - Sean Cronin , Ireland
72'Substitute on - Jordan Larmour , Ireland
72'Player substituted - Jacob Stockdale , Ireland

Joey Carbery is having a day, and the Munster fly-half keeps his cool to extend Ireland's lead back to nine points. Scotland restart, but Jonny Gray is penalised from the resulting lineout and Ireland clear.
69'Player substituted - Simon Berghan , Scotland
69'Substitute on - D'Arcy Rae , Scotland
69'Substitute on - Jamie Bhatti , Scotland
69'Player substituted - Allan Dell , Scotland
69'Substitute on - Ali Price , Scotland
69'Player substituted - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
69'13-22 Penalty goal - Joey Carbery , Ireland
68'Ireland earn the penalty advantage on the 27th phase of the attack, so Carbery speeds things up by kicking for the corner. It goes out of play, so it comes back to Ireland. Carbery will kick at goal, just from the right of the posts.
68'Player substituted - Tadhg Furlong , Ireland
68'Substitute on - Andrew Porter , Ireland
68'Player substituted - Quinn Roux , Ireland
68'Substitute on - Ultan Dillane , Ireland
66'Ireland are back into Scotland's 22 and are building up the phases. 20 now... Would one more Irish score end this game?
64'There's a flurry of action in the middle of the park. First, Carbery gets up for a great catch before Laidlaw blocks Murray's clearing kick. When Ireland finally clear, Kinghorn spills and Ireland earn the scrum.
64'Player substituted - Stuart McInally , Scotland
64'Substitute on - Fraser Brown , Scotland
64'Player substituted - Sam Johnson , Scotland
64'Substitute on - Peter Horne , Scotland
64'Player substituted - Sean O'Brien , Ireland
64'Substitute on - Josh van der Flier , Ireland
62'
Nicely done Greig Laidlaw. Scotland have been second best this half, but they are back within a single score.
62'13-19 Penalty goal - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
61'Scotland look to respond and are back in the Ireland half. They pick up the penalty and Scotland will happily go for the posts... Here comes Laidlaw...
58'That was great work from Carbery, who is on in place of the injured Sexton. He broke through the tackles of Allan Dell and Rob Harley, and that floated pass wide to Earls was perfectly judged.
57'Player substituted - Cian Healy , Ireland
57'Substitute on - Dave Kilcoyne , Ireland
57'10-19 Conversion - Joey Carbery , Ireland
56'
TRY
Ireland score the first points of the second half, and again it pretty much comes from nowhere. Kearney does well with another break, and Carbery finds a gap through the middle of the Scottish defence, powering between two tackles. Carbery then lofts a pass wide to Keith Earls, who crosses for Ireland's third. Carbery then adds the conversion from the angle.
56'10-17 Try - Keith Earls , Ireland
52'McInally turns it over and a massive kick from Kinghorn gets Scotland some relief. Kearney scampers back and clears to halfway. That's a solid gain for Scotland.
50'10 minutes into the second half and play has, understandably, slowed down a touch. Ireland win a penalty from a scrum on the halfway line. Kearney again breaks clear down the left but there's no advantage and Carbery aims a kick into touch for the third time this half.
47'Ireland are edging closer... They spent just 15 seconds inside Scotland's 5 metre line in the first half -- but scored twice -- and they must have tripled that here in this move alone... but Scotland turn it over. That's a big stop.
44'This might be the most possession Ireland have had all game... They build from halfway and win an advantage after a high tackle from Scotland's Rob Harley. Ireland worked it left to Kearney but it breaks down, so Ireland kick for touch back and will have a lineout 10 metres from Scotland's line.
43'Ireland win a penalty after Jonny Gray takes his man out following a scrum. Carbery kicks deep into the Scotland half and into touch.
42'And we're off Ireland get us underway to start the second half.
41'

To recap

Where to begin? Ireland took the lead through Conor Murray after a mix-up between Scotland's backs Tommy Seymour and Sean Maitland allowed the scrum-half to collect a bouncing kick and cross.

Jacob Stockdale then extended Ireland's lead with his first try of this year's championships. It came from a slick move which carved Scotland open, with Johnny Sexton slipping his winger into space with a reverse pass on halfway.

There was then some sublime magic from Finn Russell to set up Sam Johnson for Scotland's score. Russell was lying on the ground when he found Johnson, popping the ball into the onrunning centre's hands.

Both teams have also lost key men due to injuries. Stuart Hogg and Johnny Sexton will play no part in the second half.

41'

What. A. Half.

There have been almost no stoppages and we were treated to 40 minutes of full-on, free-flowing attacking rugby. Ireland are ahead but Scotland have had the majority of the ball and have had chances to score their second try. Ireland's tries pretty much came out of nowhere, but that's what champions do, right?

41'Substitute on - Jamie Ritchie , Scotland
41'Player substituted - Ryan Wilson , Scotland
41'10-12 End of first half
40'Ireland win the scrum and Carbery kicks into touch for half time. How Ireland got out of that I do not know, but Schmidt's side worked tremendously hard to keep their lead.
40'10-12 Start of second half
38'Scotland work it left to Jones and Kinghorn, but there's no way through. They come right, out towards Seymour. This must be it... but the pass towards Seymour from Jones was just behind his hands. The play breaks down and Ireland turn the ball over. Brilliant defence from the Six Nations champions.
37'Scotland are inside the 5 metre line but Ireland are standing strong in front of their posts...
35'Ireland tip the lineout and the ball bounces towards the Ireland tryline. Can you believe it, it bounces up onto the corner post with both hookers in pursuit. Rory Best got there first ahead of McInally and it will be a Scotland scrum on the 5.
35'Substitute on - Rob Harley , Scotland
35'Player substituted - Jamie Ritchie , Scotland
34'Scotland work it from left to right and Seymour attempts to get down the line with a kick, Earls gets back and slides out of play with ball in hand. Lineout Scotland in another promising area.
32'Scotland come again and Russell tests Stockdale with a clever kick into space towards Huw Jones. Stockdale does well to collect and stop Jones, who would have been clear.
30'10-12 Conversion - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
29'
TRY
Take a bow Finn Russell. He reads Joey Carbery's pass in midfield and bursts clear. He's got 50 yards to make and Keith Earls is in hot pursuit... Earls makes the tackle with Russell inches away but with the flyhalf on the ground, Russell pops the ball into the air for the onrunning Sam Johnson, who crosses in the corner. How did Russell see that run?! Laidlaw converts from a tight angle. What a game this is.
29'8-12 Try - Sam Johnson , Scotland
26'Play gets locked on halfway following another scrum, but Irish flank Peter O'Mahony wins his side great territory with a clever kick down the touchline. Murray almost got onto it, too. Scotland clear.
24'We restart with a scrum just inside Ireland's half. After Russell and Kearney exchange kicks, Kinghorn brings it forward.
24'Player substituted - Johnny Sexton , Ireland
24'Substitute on - Joey Carbery , Ireland
22'Great stuff from Kinghorn again. He shows quick feet on the halfway line and gains 10 metres. The ball is worked right to Russell who kicks a low grubber towards the corner. Maitland gives chase but spills. The TMO is reviewing this, but brings it back for a forward pass from Sam Johnson, which is how Kinghorn got clear in the first place.
20'What a start, and there's loads happening on and off the pitch. Confirmation now that Hogg is off with a shoulder injury, while Murray is taking Ireland's kicks instead of Sexton. Is the Irish flyhalf hurt as well? It's one to watch out for.
19'Scotland looked like they were going to kick to touch, but suddenly Finn Russell flips a pass back inside to Strauss. Ireland stand strong and turn it over. That was a risk from the Scots as they went for the line, and it didn't pay off. Ireland win the penalty from the scrum and Conor Murray clears.
18'Without Hogg, two scores down, how can Scotland respond? Well hat-trick hero Kinghorn is on the field on and a good move takes his team into the 5-metre line. They've got a penalty, too.
17'
TRY
Out of nowhere, Stockdale breaks clear for the score. It was a beautiful move. Sexton slipped Stockdale in with a late inside pass pretty much in the middle of the pitch. Stockdale reads the line and drives clear with impressive pace. Two quick scores from Ireland have flipped this game on its head.
17'3-12 Try - Jacob Stockdale , Ireland
17'3-7 Conversion - Conor Murray , Ireland
17'Player substituted - Stuart Hogg , Scotland
17'Substitute on - Blair Kinghorn , Scotland
15'Stuart Hogg takes a mark and boots it clear... but that looks to be his last action of the day. Huge blow for Scotland. Kinghorn comes on.
14'Scotland turn the ball over inside the Irish half -- great interception by Sexton -- and the visitors burst clear through Farrell, who has had a storming start. Farrell and Stockdale give chase down the left wing but Scotland clear.
11'

Missed conversion

Sexton's kick is...ugly, and left of the posts from a pretty straightforward position. It remains 5-3 Ireland.
10'
TRY
Ireland win the ball back after Scotland lose possession through Hogg. Farrell kicks it forward from the wing and Jacob Stockdale chases...Tommy Seymour gets back but there's miscommunication between him and Maitland and suddenly Conor Murray is clear. The scrum-half crosses for the first try of the day. It was a gift.
10'3-5 Try - Conor Murray , Ireland
9'Ireland get back underway through Sexton, who drops the ball onto Jones on the touchline. The Scotland centre spills and the Irish will get the chance to build into Scottish territory.
7'
Simple stuff for the Scotland captain. A positive start from the hosts results in three points.
7'3-0 Penalty goal - Greig Laidlaw , Scotland
6'Wilson wins the ball from the lineout and Scotland maul forward. They're inside the five. Stauss and then McInally drive forward and here comes another penalty...this time on Bundee Aki for putting his hands into the ruck. Laidlaw will kick for goal from infront of the posts.
4'Off goes Stuart Hogg, driving Scotland forward, and the hosts get a penalty advantage after a high tackle on Ryan Wilson. The move breaks down after Scotland try to work it right to Maitland. The Scots kick for touch in the corner...
3'Conor Murray goes up and under from the lineout, but it doesn't go far in this breeze. Scotland continue to push.
2'Scotland are back in possession and are building from the half-way line. Huw Jones kicks and chases and Kearney is tested for the first time, but guides the ball out for a lineout back on the 22.
1'And we're off! Scotland's Stuart Hogg gets us underway, kicking high towards Ireland's 22. France's Romain Poite is today's referee.

The teams are out

This should be a cracker. Ireland need to get back on track if they want to retain their Six Nations crown and will be desperate to right the wrongs from last weekend.

And what a massive opportunity this is for Scotland to go two-from-two. With trips to Paris and London to come, home form is vital if the Scots are to challenge for the title. Flower of Scotland rings around Murrayfield.

1'We're close to kick-off at Murrayfield and it looks to be a typically blustery afternoon in Edinburgh. That will certainly make things interesting for fullbacks Hogg and Kearney, as well as kickers Greig Laidlaw and Johnny Sexton. There's plenty of experience for both teams in those key positions, though.

Fantasy Rugby: Players to watch

There are plenty of star players to watch out for this afternoon for all you ESPN Fantasy Rugby managers. Ireland's Jacob Stockdale is owned by a massive 66 percent of Fantasy bosses but failed to cross against England last week and only scored three points. Can he get his 2019 campaign going at Murrayfield?

For the hosts, look no further than Stuart Hogg, who, again, is owned by a ridiculous 73.3 percent of managers. Hogg scored 11 points against Italy and you can back him to be involved if Scotland manage to score this afternoon.

If you haven't signed up for ESPN Fantasy Rugby (first, what are you doing?), sign ups are still open!

Hat-trick hero Kinghorn dropped by Scotland

Scotland have made four changes from their opening win against Italy, and it's Townsend's decision to bench winger Blair Kinghorn that has raised eyebrows. Kinghorn's hat-trick against Italy took his international tally to an impressive six tries in eight appearances, but he has made way for Sean Maitland for the visit of Ireland, who will need to do his fair share of defending this afternoon.

Elsewhere, prop Simon Berghan and back-row Josh Strauss come in for forwards Willem Nel and Sam Skinner, who are nursing calf and ankle injuries, respectively. Jonny Gray's recovery from a shoulder injury sees him start ahead of second-row Ben Toolis, who will be a replacement.

1'

Injury concern for Ireland?

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt is without three key men for the visit to Murrayfield, with centre Garry Ringrose and back row CJ Stander out due to injury. Add that to yesterday's news that man-mountain lock Devin Toner will miss the rest of the Six Nations after undergoing ankle surgery and could Schmidt have a potential injury crisis on his hands?

Well, let's not get too carried away. Ireland can rely on impressive strength in depth and have brought in centre Chris Farrell and lock Quinn Roux while Sean O'Brien and Jack Conan come into the back row. Rob Kearney also comes in at fullback for Robbie Henshaw, who struggled against England last week.

Good afternoon and welcome to ESPN's live coverage of the Six Nations second-round clash between Scotland and Ireland.

If the opening weekend was anything to go by, we're set for a cracker at Murrayfield, with defending champions Ireland looking to bounce back from their shock defeat against England in Dublin.

They face a tough test against the Scots, who, despite conceding three late tries, cruised to an opening win against Italy last week. Gregor Townsend's side have not lost a home Six Nations match since 2016. Stay tuned for all the action from 2:15 p.m. GMT.
