Match Commentary

81'+119-12 End of second half
80'A winning start for Andy Farrell as coach and Johnny Sexton as captain. Gregor Townsend will be disappointed after a Herculean final drive from Scotland. There will be a few worrying injuries for Farrell with Tadhg Furlong limping off in the final ten minutes. Keep an eye on ESPN for all the updates and reaction in the coming days.
80'Allan Dell takes the ball to ground but it squirts away from him and Ireland win a scrum. With the clock in the red, this should be the last play of the game.
78'A massive defensive effort from Ireland there. Scotland were battering the line but they were no match for CJ Stander who held on tight and won Ireland the penalty. Ross Byrne slices the kick though and Scotland remain inside the Irish 22.

69'Ireland were nearly in there but Bundee Aki is adjudicated to have fumbled the ball forward. Scotland scrum has done well this evening and they are under pressure to make sure they get the ball out of their half.
67'Massive round of applause as Devin Toner comes on. Toner was one of the shock omissions of Joe Schmidt's World Cup squad. Toner gets his instructions from a very bloody Peter O'Mahony and cleanly wins his first lineout.

63'Another big scrum from Scotland. Sean Maitland chases the ball down the pitch but Jacob Stockdale is there to gather and he ducks and dives his way around Maitland's tackle.
61'A lot of people will be interested to see how John Cooney does as he replaces Conor Murray. The Ulster man has been tipped to be a possible starter over Murray but Farrell has so far remained committed to the Munster man.
60'Player substituted - Conor Murray , Ireland
60'Substitute on - John Cooney , Ireland
59'Jordan van der Flier takes the lineout and Ireland go straight into their famous maul. Scotland are ready for them though and Rory Sutherland rips the ball from van der Flier. Conor Murray cuts a frustrated figure and gives away the penalty.

40'A few stats from the first-half for you. Ireland have enjoyed 60% of the possession and 54% of the game has been played in Irish territory. Scotland have the higher tackle completion rate at 88% but also the higher penalty count conceding seven penalties to Ireland's five.
40'Phew, that was a hectic few moments before half-time. The sides go in separated by just four points. Few moments of individual brilliance from Ireland -- especially at the breakdown -- but Scotland will be confident that they can come out in the second-half and play for a win.

1'And we're underway!
1'Ireland won the toss and will play right to left in the first half.
1'When these two sides met last year, Ireland beat Scotland 13-22. Today's match is being held at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Scotland haven't managed to win on Irish soil in a decade but will be hoping to change that today.
1'Today also marks the first game in charge for Ireland's Andy Farrell. Farrell joined the Irish coaching set up in 2016 as a defence coach having previously worked with Saracens, the British and Irish Lions and England. With Farrell having worked closely with former coach Joe Schmidt -- the mastermind behind much of Ireland's success in recent years -- it remains to be seen how much of Schmidt's managerial style he will keep.
1'Ireland and Scotland have a lot to prove in this championship after a disastrous World Cup in Japan. Both teams were beaten by the hosts while Scotland didn't even make it out of the pool stages. In saying that, Ireland may wish they had never made it out of the pool stages after suffering a heavy 46-14 defeat to New Zealand in the quarterfinals.
