India's Saina Nehwal lost in the women's singles semifinal, while B Sai Praneeth reached the final of men's singles at the Thailand Open on Saturday.
Second seed Saina lost 21-19, 21-18 to fourth seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand. Earlier, Sai Praneeth beat world No. 71 Pannawit Thongnuam 21-11, 21-15 to reach the final.
World No. 24 Praneeth started on a strong note and went into the first break with a four-point lead. From there on, he did not let his Thai opponent make a recovery and won the game comfortably.
Thongnuam started well in the second game, leading 6-3 at one stage. But Praneeth closed the gap and reduced the deficit to one point at the break. It was neck and neck for a while after that as both players won points consistently. After 14-15, however, it was Praneeth all the way as he won seven consecutive points to wrap up the game and the match.
In the final, Praneeth will face 19-year-old Jonatan Christie of Indonesia.
