PV Sindhu entered the final of the World Championships for the third-successive edition after defeating fourth-seed Chen Yufei 21-7, 21-14 in just 40 minutes. B Sai Praneeth, however, finished his campaign with a bronze medal after losing 13-21, 8-21 to world no. 1 and defending champion Kento Momota in the semi-final.
Sindhu put in a confident display as she never let Chen have much of a say in the match. The first game lasted less than 15 minutes as Sindhu got off to a fine start. Having overcome arguably her biggest threat in this tournament in the form of Tai Tzu Ying in the quarterfinals, Sindhu will now start as favourite in the final after this clinical win.
Interestingly, Sindhu had defeated Chen 21-13, 21-10 at the same stage in the 2017 tournament and her performance here was reminiscent of that day. She will hope to emulate this display in the final, where she'll face Japan's Nozomi Okuhara.
In the men's singles match, Praneeth started confidently and stayed in touch with Momota till 10-10 in the opening game. It was a different story after that though, as Momota ran up a big lead and Praneeth never got back into the match.
With this bronze-medal finish, Praneeth joins Prakash Padukone as the second Indian man to medal at the World Championships.
