Sameer Verma then suffered a 13-21, 21-19, 20-22 loss to world no. 3 Anders Antonsen in an extremely close match. Reigning world champion PV Sindhu then suffered a dispiriting 13-21, 9-21 loss to former world no. 1 Ratchanok Intanon in an extremely one-sided match.
2019 champions Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty moved one step closer to repeating their feat after defeating Malaysia's Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi 21-18, 24-22 in their quarterfinal match.
