Rex Ryan shows frustration with Patriots reporters during call

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan became annoyed with New England reporters during a Thursday conference call, at one point asking the question “Why are you even talking to me?” as things turned edgy and ended shortly thereafter.

The question which sparked Ryan’s reaction was: “You’ve lost eight of nine to the Patriots; is that something that kind of keeps you up at night considering how much time you spend talking about them?”

Ryan’s response: “The only reason I talk about them is that they are the No. 1 team in our division and that’s where we want to be. I know you guys always say I’m obsessed with them and all that. You guys are obsessed with them, not me. You’re the ones who talk about them every single day. I’ll tell you this: We prepare for them the same way we prepare for every team we face. But do we want to beat them? Absolutely. Do I want to beat them more than any other team? Yeah, because they’re the standard. They’ve won. They’re the ones who win the division. To me, that’s why. But do I obsess about them? You guys write I’ve lost [eight of nine], so why are you are even talking to me? I have no clue how to attack them or defend them, so you guys should talk to somebody else who has a better record than I do against them.”

That came about five minutes into the conference call, and Ryan’s answers were clipped and pointed for the final two-plus minutes of the call.

For example, he was asked a question about Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor and said, “You guys are the experts. You’ll figure it out.”

When asked a follow-up question on Taylor, Ryan said, “You need to do a little more of your homework to find out. I’m not going to answer your question. … You guys will figure it out.”

A reporter then asked Ryan why he seemed to be mad at the reporters on the call.

“I just like the way you guys spin everything; you put everything I say … put it out there the way you want to and I understand it. You guys have covered this matchup for years and years. We got no business being on the same field, that’s what you said; I’ve lost [eight of nine] against them. So don’t talk to me. I’m sitting back here, I’ll answer the question, whatever, but I don’t know why you even bother.”
