The Gatorade State Track & Field Athletes of the Year were announced last week, and both of the Texas winners were from the Dallas-Fort Worth area: South Grand Prairie's Abraham Hall and Mansfield Legacy's Shelbi Vaughan.
As a senior, Hall won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the UIL Class 5A state meet, helping South Grand Prairie to a fourth-place team finish.
Hall will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point this fall, where he will compete in track and field.
Vaughan earned gold medals at the UIL Class 5A state meet in the discus and shot put as a senior. She also set a national high school and junior record with a discus toss of 198 feet, 9 inches at this month’s USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships.
Vaughan has signed with Texas A&M.
