DETROIT -- As bleak as it appeared that Jose Iglesias would return before season's end, it appears the injured shortstop could be available in the Detroit Tigers' season series finale against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday.

According to manager Brad Ausmus, Iglesias was planning on running Sunday morning to see how he felt. Depending on how that went, the 25-year-old infielder could be available to pinch-run.

Iglesias, who has not played since suffering a fractured finger while attempting to bunt during a game against the Kansas City Royals on Sept. 3, will travel with the team on their final two road trips of the season as well.

Ausmus did not rule out that he could return to the lineup, though he originally said that for that to happen Iglesias would have to bat during the club's current homestand.

"If he can swing the bat and be available to play the season out, we’ll use him to do that, or play the field," Ausmus said.

Meanwhile, Josh Wilson will start at shortstop Sunday. Both Dixon Machado and Andrew Romine have played in Iglesias' absence, though the latter sustained a groin strain in Friday's game during an at-bat and is considered day-to-day.

Iglesias has declined to cite any specific timeline for a return. Rather, he did not seem optimistic he'd be able to play again before the season was over; Iglesias said recently his top priority was to get healthy and be ready for 2016.
