Oakland 75, Wisconsin-Milwaukee 70

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) -- Erik Kangas had 18 points, including two key late jumpers, and Oakland beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee 75-70 on Saturday.

Oakland (5-4) snapped a two-game losing streak, while the Panthers (2-7) lost their third straight despite a career-high 36 points from Avery Smith.

The Golden Grizzlies blew a 14-point second-half lead and needed a jumper from Kangas to break a 61-61 deadlock with 2:49 to play.

Freshman Johnathon Jones followed with a 3-pointer to make it 66-61, then drew a charge from Smith.

Kangas clinched the game with a dramatic 3-pointer with 58 seconds to play -- a shot that bounced three times on the right side of the rim before dropping through the net.

Vova Severovas and Shawn Hopes each added 13 points for Oakland, while Jones had 10.

Smith was 13-of-20 from the floor in 29 minutes off the bench, including 8-of-12 on 3-pointers, but no other Panther reached double figures.

Oakland had never beaten Wisconsin-Milwaukee in six tries, dating back to 1969.
