The U.S. record for career passing yards remains in the Mauk family of Kenton, Ohio, but there's a new first name on top of the list.

Maty Mauk, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior for the Kenton Wildcats, shattered the record Saturday night held by his brother Ben, a current Wildcats assistant coach under head coach and father Mike Mauk. Ben Mauk, who later played for Wake Forest and the University of Cincinnati, ended his Kenton career in 2002 with 17,364 passing yards.

Maty Mauk, a University of Missouri commit, completed his first 19 passes and connected on 27 of 29 for 507 yards and an Ohio state record-tying nine TD passes in three quarters of a 74-22 opening round Division iV playoff victory over visiitng Wellington (Ohio), according to Kenrick Jesionowski of the Kenton Times. Kenton improved to 11-0 and Wellington ended its season at 7-4.

When Mauk, who also rushed for 80 yards, exited the game, the Wildcats led 62-22. Mauk's 507-yard game pushed his four-year total to a record 17,770 yards and counting (all-time passing leaders). The younger Mauk already has the most touchdown passes in American high school football history, with 208.

It's worth noting that Mauk set the all-time passing record at the high school level on the same night that Houston's Case Keenum established a mark at the NCAA level. The Cougars QB also holds the NCAA career passing touchdowns record.

If Kenton advances to the state final, Mauk would have four more games.
