Max Fried, a left-handed pitcher from Harvard-Westlake, was selected by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. He was taken with the seventh overall pick.
Fried (8-2) had 105 strikeouts and 33 walks in 66 innings pitched in his senior season. He had four complete games and two shutouts with a 2.02 ERA.
He is verbally committed to UCLA, along with Harvard-Westlake teammate Lucas Giolito.
Giolito was a projected first-round pick as well, by he had arm surgery and was limited to three starts in his senior season.
