Summer recruiting road map: Louisville eyes shooters, scorers

Heading into the all-important July recruiting period, we take a look at recruiting needs and game plans for the top 25 programs in college basketball. Next up, the Louisville Cardinals.

Where they are: Last year at this time, Louisville was entering a transition period -- but getting transfers Damion Lee and Trey Lewis eligible immediately helped ease any concerns. Lee and Lewis were the team’s top scorers, and Lee was one of the best players in the country for much of the season. But Lee and Lewis are now gone as is center Chinanu Onuaku, who left early for the NBA draft. Rick Pitino always seems to have a talented crop of young players next in line, though, and this year is no different. Sophomore wings Donovan Mitchell and Deng Adel could be poised for breakout seasons, while Quentin Snider and Mangok Mathiang provide some veteran experience. Penn grad transfer Tony Hicks and top-30 freshman V.J. King will immediately step into contributing roles.
