Scout's Take: Roquan Smith to UCLA Bruins

Roquan Smith, No. 29 in the ESPN 300 and the No. 2 outside linebacker prospect, committed to UCLA over Georgia, Michigan and Texas A&M on Wednesday at a ceremony in a packed gym at Macon County High in Montezuma, Georgia. Smith’s decision came as a surprise to many after being considered a lean to the home-state Bulldogs for nearly a year.

Commitment impact: Smith is a big-time win for Jim Mora Jr. and the Bruins staff that spent many hours in the past two classes recruiting the Southeast without notable success. Smith brings playmaking skills to the linebacker corps in Westwood with the ability to be a difference-maker in coverage. UCLA was the first school to offer Smith nearly two years ago.
