Alabama commitment Stephon Wynn was one of six IMG Academy players presented with an Under Armour All America jersey on Monday in Bradenton, Florida.
“This is a dream come true,” said Wynn. “I remember as a kid watching the game and wanting to play in it because Ben Boulware played in the game and he is from my hometown. I told my parents tah tone day I wanted to play in the Under Armour Game, and my parents said work hard and it can happen and it has.”
The 6-foot-4, 279-pound defensive end committed to Alabama in July, and has never looked back with the Crimson Tide’s key need at Wynn’s position being a key factor in his decision.
“I’m very happy with my decision, an I’m actually going to Alabama for my official visit this weekend,” said Wynn, the No. 85 player in the ESPN 300. “What led me to pick Alabama is they are in reloading mode on the defensive line, and I think I’ll have the opportunity to come in play early.”
Four questions with Stephon Wynn:
What player are you looking forward to competing with or against in the Under Armour All-America Game?
I just love the opportunity to go and compete. My ranking has kind of slipped since I didn’t take part in camps, so I want to show that I’m still the same player everyone thought I was when I was younger.
If you could start a team with any player in your class, who would it be and why?
I would say Justin Fields or Trevor Lawrence. Its starts at the quarterback position, and Fields and Lawrence are the top two and both are very good players.
What is your earliest football memory?
I remember my first game when I was seven or eight, and I played running back. I was good at it, but since I had more size I ended up playing defensive end, tight end and all over the place to use my size more.
What number do your wear, and why?
I wear 90. I have always worn something with an eight in it because my dad wore 83 at Clemson. I’m wearing 90 now, and it’s growing on me, so I may keep it.
