Tennessee quarterback commitment Adrian Martinez was presented with an Under Armour All America jersey on Wednesday at Clovis West (Fresno, Calif.).
“I would say it’s a dream come true,” said Martinez. “Playing high school football, this is a different tentacal being invited to the game, and play with the best players in the country. It’s an honor.”
For the 6-foot-2, 198-pound signal-caller, it was being named the starting quarterback as a sophomore and first offer that followed that showed him that he could be a nationally recruited prospect.
“I would say my sophomore year when I was picked to be the starting QB at my school because we had a lot of high level players, but it never truly hit until I got that first offer.”
Martinez is in an odd spot with his recruitment as he watches and waits for Tennessee to finally make a head coaching hire following the dismissal of Butch jones.
“Honestly things are very much in the air with how things are going at Tennessee.” He said “I waiting to see how things play out when Tennessee has a new coach. I’m talking to Ohio State, Missouri, Ole Miss and hometown Fresno State in addition to Tennessee. I may take a couple of official visits.”
Four questions with Adrian Martinez:
What player are you looking forward to competing with or against in the Under Armour All-America Game?
Alonte Taylor. He had been committed to Tennessee. We have talked a lot about playing together and put in some reps together. I also want to compete against QB’s there and prove myself on a national platform.
If you could start a team with any player in your class, who would it be and why?
Cade Mays. I would stick him on the OL, and I know he would have my back. I know he would be my guy, and solidify the OL right away. He’s a great guy with an amazing family, and tough competitor.
What is your earliest football memory?
My first Pop Warner game when I was 7 years old. My dad would always put tape on my wrist. I had on the big pads and stuff. I just loved being out there with my teammates. Seeing the look in my dad’s eyes and how proud he was, and where I’m at now is awesome.
What number do your wear, and why?
I wear 12. It’s a great QB number. Guys like Aaron Rogers, Tom Brady and Randall Cunningham. I want to be reminded of the great QB’s.
