Boxer Ryan Garcia has amassed a sterling amateur record of 215-15 and has also gone unbeaten in six professional fights. Now the young fighter is taking his career to another level by signing with former boxer and current promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.

Garcia, 18, fights at lightweight (132 pounds) currently and is pleased to be on board with De La Hoya's team.

Before signing with De La Hoya, Garcia, who was born and raised in Victorville, California, bypassed limits imposed in the U.S. against underage fighters by taking on bouts in Mexico. He and a younger brother, Sean, were both trained by their father for years, though Garcia moved on to new coaches last year in anticipation of turning pro.

Garcia's pride in his Mexican heritage is evident in his ring attire, as he fights in trunks depicting images from Mexico's flag. Yet he also honors his American roots inside the ropes with red, white and blue boxing gloves.

Garcia is scheduled to make his debut for Golden Boy promotions this December. He looks to follow in the footsteps of De La Hoya, the most successful Mexican-American boxer in history.
