'Spanish Curry' sets his school's record with 11 threes in loss

Culver-Stockton's Francesc Iturria set the program's individual school record with 11 three-pointers in the Wildcats' 96-90 loss to Graceland on Saturday. The loss dropped the NAIA-affiliated school to 1-9 and 0-6 in league play within the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Iturra who had previously set his season-high for the school on Thursday with 26 points against Baker University, continued his hot hand in the field by upending the previous school record for treys, held by James Johnson, who hit eight in a 2013 contest. On November 28, Iturria had notched his first double-double for the program in another loss.

The Spanish guard finished with a game-high 40 points, hitting 11-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc. Iturra and his teammates converted 21 threes, a program record. The performance was more than enough for MARCA to dub him “Spanish Curry”. Iturria, a 5-11 shooting guard and former youth national team selection for Spain, is one of five Europeans on the squad.

Fellow Spaniard Adrián Fernandez finished with 13 points, and paced his school with six rebounds on the night. Senior center Aleksander Malinic and junior forward Nik Maric hail from Croatia, while Alon Hesmani, a sophomore forward from Israel round out the European brigade. The team also boasts an Australian import, Campbell Millar, a forward hailing from Brisbane.
