Troy Tulowitzki might be back. And so might the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays hit Tulowitzki sixth in Game 3 against the Texas Rangers, the first time he had hit there this season. He took to it well.

Tulowitzki became the fourth player in Blue Jays history to have at least four RBIs in a postseason game, joining Tony Fernandez, Devon White and Joe Carter, all on the 1993 championship team. It was Tulowitzki’s most RBIs in a game with the Blue Jays. The four RBIs are more than he had in any of the four previous postseason series in which he had played. Prior to hitting in Game 3, he had gone 0-for-11 against the Rangers during this series.

Tulowitzki homered in his second career playoff game, but then went 15 games without another one before Sunday.

The win was the first in an elimination game for the Blue Jays, who were 0-3 previously in such contests.

Inside the at-bat

The Blue Jays had squandered multiple opportunities to pad a 2-0 lead before Tulowitzki came up with two men on and two men out in the sixth inning.

Rangers reliever Chi Chi Gonzalez decided he would not give Tulowitzki a fastball. But he may have been too predictable. He threw six pitches in the at-bat, alternating between sliders and changeups.

Gonzalez’s third and final changeup caught the very bottom of the strike zone, and Tulowitzki crushed it to left field.

It was a choice that was a bit unusual for the moment. Gonzalez threw only 17 changeups to right-handed hitters during the regular season and did not allow a hit with the pitch.

Two-man show

The Blue Jays were carried by the hitting of Tulowitzki and the pitching of Marco Estrada, who held the Rangers to one run in 6 1/3 innings.

Estrada led the American League in opponents’ batting average this season (.203). That ranked fourth in the majors, behind Jake Arrieta (.185), Zack Greinke (.187) and Clayton Kershaw (.194).

The Rangers' left-handed hitters mustered only two hits in 14 at-bats against Estrada for the game. Left-handed batters are hitting a combined .176 against him in his last nine starts (righties are hitting .203).
