Game 8 of the 2016 NBA Finals -- or rather the Christmas Day game between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers -- lived up to its billing.

What made the contest great from a statistical perspective?

• The Cavaliers won a game that they led for 42 seconds, the second-least amount of time a team led in a win this season (the Orlando Magic defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in a game that Orlando led for 19 seconds on Nov. 1). In their four NBA Finals wins in 2016, the Cavaliers led for an average of 34 minutes.

• The Cavaliers came back from 14 points down to win, the biggest comeback on Christmas Day in the past 10 seasons.

• This was the third Christmas Day game in the past 20 seasons to be won on a shot in the final five seconds. Roger Mason hit a buzzer-beater 3-pointer to give the San Antonio Spurs a win over the Phoenix Suns in 2008. Derrick Rose hit a shot with 4.8 seconds left to give the Chicago Bulls a win over the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011.

• The game featured 17 dunks, one shy of the most in an NBA game this season. The Cavaliers had 10 of the 17.

• The Cavaliers held the Warriors to nine 3-pointers. The Warriors are 21-1 this season when they make at least 10 3-pointers in a game. They’re 6-4 otherwise.

• Kyrie Irving didn’t just hit the winning shot. He also had seven steals, which according to Elias Sports Bureau research is the most in a Christmas Day game. Irving, who also finished with 25 points, had five assists to LeBron James. The only game in which he had more was on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks, when he had six.

• James had 31 points and 13 rebounds. He improves to 14-3 in his career in head-to-head matchups against Kevin Durant's teams in the regular season. James' Miami Heat also beat Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder 4-1 in the 2012 NBA Finals. Durant was no slouch in this one on Sunday, finishing with 36 points and 15 rebounds. He’s the first player to have 35 and 15 in a Christmas Day game since Scottie Pippen for the Chicago Bulls in 1994.

• Stephen Curry was 4-of-11 from the field and 2-of-7 from 3-point range, continuing his struggles on Christmas Day.

Curry has been held under 20 points in all six Christmas Day games in which he has played.

The Cavaliers are 6-0 at home all time on Christmas Day. That’s the best home record for any NBA team on Christmas Day.
