Why Oregon could be the biggest benefactor of young California talent

California is home to the No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2019 class, defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux. The 6-foot-5, 234-pound lineman out of Oaks Christian High School is one of 31 ESPN 300 prospects in the state and one of the 11 California ESPN 300s still uncommitted.

The Golden State has 35 percent of the top recruits uncommitted at this point in the cycle, which isn't uncommon. West Coast prospects tend to make their commitments later in the process than their East Coast counterparts.

That number is on par with Florida, where 39 percent of the ESPN 300 prospects are still uncommitted, but it's far higher than Texas and Georgia, where 13 and 8 percent of the respective in-state prospects in those two states are still uncommitted.

That means there is still a lot that could happen over the next few weeks leading up to the early signing period and February signing day, including with Thibodeaux, who has Alabama, Florida State, Oregon and USC among his offers.
