Student sportswriter among wounded in Charlotte
Drew Pescaro, a sportswriter for the student newspaper and a video assistant for the UNC Charlotte football team, was one of four wounded by a gunman on campus Tuesday. Two others were killed.

The Charlotte 49ers say they have hired Will Healy as their head football coach.
Charlotte pulls back offer to JMU coach Houston
James Madison coach Mike Houston informed Charlotte that he had interest in exploring other coaching opportunities, so the 49ers have pulled back their offer.

Charlotte athletic director Mike Hill releases a statement that the school has withdrawn a contract offer to James Madison coach Mike Houston because Houston still plans to pursue other jobs. Houston likely will take the East Carolina job instead. Charlotte could turn to Matt Canada, Maryland's acting head coach for the past season, or other candidates for its vacancy.
