Lower order rallies for England

South Africa Under-19s 433 and 12 for 0 lead England Under-19s 352 for 9 dec (Clarke 59, Makhanya 3-59) by 93 runs
Scorecard

South Africa Under-19s were given a first-innings lead by England on the third day at Fenners but a draw looks likely in the first youth Test.

Regular wickets stymied England's response to the tourists' 433 and were it not for lower-order runs, England could have handed their opposition a greater advantage but were eventually able to declare in the final session to try and breath some life into the match

Surrey's Dominic Sibley made 48 but his fellow top-order batsman failed to contribute significantly; Sibley's own effort was indicative of England's failure to get a commanding score onto their card.

Joe Clarke was the only batsman to pass fifty but he fell to the medium pace of Sibonelo Makhanya, who was the South Africans' best bowler with 3 for 49.

England were flagging badly at 199 for 6 but the lower-order rallied well with 40s from Nos. 8, 9 and 10 to reduce the first-innings deficit to 81 and probably take enough time out of the game to ensure a draw.
