New Zealand went nuclear on New Year's Day. After more than five hours of waiting for the weather to clear, Corey Anderson began 2014 by treating patient spectators to the fastest century in one-day cricket. He scored it off 36 balls, beating Afridi's record by one delivery, to lead New Zealand to 283 in a 21 over game. Ryder's century, in his second game after returning to the national side, was the sixth fastest in ODIs. The West Indies' chase was academic.

ananth: "Hope Cricinfo archive this match as Anderson Vs WI and Anderson won the match by 7 runs"

Dwayne Bravo: "They caught us on the back foot ...came out positive ...fantastic innings ...nothing you can do as captain and bowler when they hit the ball so clean ... at one point we thought we wouldn't have a game...but no excuses ... we have to regroup and get ready for the next game."

Brendon McCullum: "We didn't think we'd get a game but we knew the wicket was going to be good. We were pretty desperate to get out there. some of the batting ...once in a lifetime sort of stuff. It looked a good wicket ... we needed early momentum ... I got a couple away and then sat back and watched an amazing show. the whole thing was about getting through our overs, it was straight out get through the overs no matter what, they did a great job."

The Man of the Match is obviously Corey Anderson: "Feels pretty good, nice to get the win too. I went out there thinking about ticking over some singles but you hit a couple of boundaries and you keep going." Apologies, but we lost feed mid-way through Anderson's interview.

So how about that. Many hours of twiddling thumbs followed by the most manic hitting you've ever seen in an ODI innings. Cricket never fails to surprise. We'll have a lot more for you on the site about the records broken today, so keep checking back in.

That's all I've got for you today on commentary. Thank you for all your emails. I hope you enjoyed the game as much as Sanjay Murari and I did bringing it to you. Cheers, and I'm off to get some sleep.
