Quotes from presentation
"Full credit has to go to India," says Michael Clarke. "They played outstandingly, especially Dhoni. That innings changed the game completely. And Ashin's bowling. Moises' debut is a positive, but we have got to turn things around. Work hard in the nets and get ready for the next Test match. The pitch looked a lot worse than it played. second innings, it played tougher, but that's what you expect in the subcontinent. No excuses, we got outplayed."
"Yes I have spent a lot of time here," says MS Dhoni, who is also the Man of the Match. "I love the people out here. Fantastic crowd. Good to see people come for Test matches in India. It was important to play some shots. If you have those extra catching fielders, you might make one mistake and end your innings. I had to play a few shots to try and spread the field. The first partnership was important. Sachin and Pujara batted for a period of time. Virat and Sachin was crucial. It tired the bowlers a bit. Those partnerships were crucial. Ashwin bowled brilliantly. In the second innings, he was well supported by Bhajji. Ashwin stuck with his offspinners, which was good. He was willing to bowl in one area, and that's a big positive. It's important to be focussed now, but at the same time it is important that the bowlers take some time off now. Never dreamt I would get a double in Tests. I had never even dreamt of playing for the country. Let's just keep it simple."
10.51am So India have won by eight wickets. Hand shakes all around. Dhoni will be a relieved man. And boy has he earned that relief with a killer innings. Ashwin is handed a stump by the loyal home ground staff who secured one for him. It was a good comeback for Ashwin too after a disappointing series against England. Dhoni now goes level with Ganguly as most successful Indian captains: 21 wins
The only worries for India to emerge from this match: not finishing off the tail, and the openers' woes. Australia will have a lot to get their heads around: informed player management, number of spinners, I suppose Lyon will keep his place as he deserves to, the identity of the other spinner, Clarke's batting position
END OF OVER:11 | (maiden) | IND: 49/2
- Sachin Tendulkar13 (10b)
- Cheteshwar Pujara7 (21b)
- Peter Siddle3-2-4-0
- Nathan Lyon5-0-28-1
cris: "Forget what I said earlier. Tendulkar is going to score 400+ runs in this series. At least try to keep Pujara and Kohli quiet.."
