10.25pm: That's it for us for the summer, an English international season that has been somewhat turbulent, tear-stained and, often, truncated by the rain. Thanks for all your comments and feedback - we'll all be back in a week's time to bring you the World Twenty20, in all its glory. Speaking of which, we've got a fantasy game that might tickle you. Right, nighty night. See you again in Sri Lanka.

10.20pm: Here we go with the presentations, in the cold Birmingham night air. England captain, Stuart Broad: "Jos's was a game-changing innings. We know how good he is, he's shown on the county circuit that he does that, he's done it on the international scene now. It's always nice when you've got a guy who can hit it into the top tier and that was highly impressive. Jos was promoted up the order and those ten balls changed that game. Graeme Swann was fantastic, as was the debutant, Danny Briggs. It was great to get him a game, we thought the conditions would suit him and he did fantastically well. We've got a squad that can do well in Sri Lanka but we don't want to look too far ahead."

AB de Villiers, South Africa's captain: "I thought we were completely outplayed today. We didn't start well and I made a few tactical errors. Probably we should have bowled Faf du Plessis, a bit more spin, and we made mistakes in the field. There are lots of positives for the World T20, we've played some good cricket all summer and we're looking forward to Sri Lanka."

Jos Buttler is named Man of the Match: "It's nice it came off, it was one of those days, nice to bat with Craig, I swung hard and it came off. International cricket hasn't gone quite as I'd hoped so far, so it's nice to contribute to a winning side. Briggsy and Swann bowled well up front, so it's good preparation for Sri Lanka."

Man of the Series, Craig Kieswetter: "It's good to see Michael Lumb back in an England shirt. We're a lot younger than the side that went to the West Indies but we've got serious confidence and serious talent. There are four or five teams out there that are able to the win the tournament., so we've got to make sure we get off to a good start."

10.10pm: England turned the amps up, as Nigel Tufnell (and one of our readers earlier in the innings) would have it, to square the series 1-1. It's hard to divine too much from what was a shortened contest with a couple of experimental line-ups - other than that there should be very few questions about Jos Buttler's place for a while. His Somerset team-mate Craig Kieswetter also showed his rope-clearing prowess ... AB de Villiers must have been six of the sight of them. South Africa needed someone to tee off in the same way but not even the Mighty Hash could save them this time.

Dernbach to Kallis, 2 runs, another slower ball, lobbed high into the off side ... and Lumb drops it! It seemed to go over his head, as the fielder ran in from deep extra-cover. England still can't bag 'em

Dernbach to JA Morkel, 1 wide, this goes completely wrong, out the back of the hand and off the cut strip wide of Morkel's off stump - not quite as off line as Morkel's earlier in the day but still pretty whiffy

Dernbach, who only conceded two off his previous six balls, to bowl the final over

Bresnan to Ontong, OUT, full toss, skewed to point and Ontong has to go! The batsman wasn't happy about the height but it was probably just below the waist, it seemed to surprise Ontong, who went for the old heave ho only to top edge to the man on the edge of the circle
