That brings an end to our coverage for the day. Here's the story of the match, in pictures, and in words. We will have more from Sid Monga and Firdose Moonda up on the site soon. Until then, this is Nitin Sundar signing off on behalf of the team at ESPNcricinfo. Cheers!

Time for the presentations.

Dhoni: "Completely outplayed. They got off to a very good start.. Ashish had a bad day, so the pressure was on the part-timers who did a very good job. But the chase - never really happened for us today. We depend on the start (with the bat) - anything over 250 is tough to chase in Kingsmead. The new guys have not got enough practice because of the rains. Hopefully they will acclimatise with time and we can make the series more interesting."

Man of the Match - Lonwabo Tsotsobe: "This is my favourite ground to bowl, I've always done my best here. I was a bit unlucky in the Tests, but did not give up. It's paying off now. I was told by Dale that there wasn't much swing, so I must hit my lengths, which I did. It was my day today" The most enjoyable wicket? "(smiles) Always, Sachin."

Smith: "Very complete performance. AB and JP's partnership was crucial after Hash's performance. We played street-smart in the end overs and got to a good solid score. I enjoyed being in the slips for Lopsy, if he keeps bowling like this he will be one of the best. WC will be in a different environment, but getting confidence and form here will be crucial."

@sidvee on Twitter sums it up: "India just lost an ODI by an innings," he says. Several comments coming in saying that India missed Ravindra Jadeja today. Other astute observers have pointed out that Munaf Patel has the best strike-rate among all Indian batsmen today.

Tsotsobe to Khan, OUT, all over. Duminy plucks a superb catch to end the game. Zaheer looks to carve another short ball over the off side, and scoops it up over the covers. JP runs back and puts in a dive to pouch it. India have lost by 135 runs. Their woeful numbers in SA v SA just became more woeful.

Tsotsobe to Patel, 1 run, Munaf backs away and slashes towards third man. He's off the mark

Munaf Patel is India's No. 11.

Tsotsobe to Nehra, OUT, ah the joy of seeing a fast bowler fox a tail-ender! Tsotso delivers a full slower ball on leg stump. Nehra barely read the length, he completely failed to notice the change in pace as he went down and attempted to defend it. He was through with the shot with an angled bat when the ball came through and hit the base of leg stump. Sheepish look from Nehra, big smile on Tsotso's face. Fast bowlers - fun when the bowl. More fun when they bat. Most fun when they go face to face.

  • India's short-ball woes continue

While the Indian bowlers and fielders had a largely forgettable day, India's fortunes in this series rest on whether their batsmen can turn things around against the short ball

  • Smith excited to have Tahir in squad

South Africa captain Graeme Smith says he has always dreamed of having an attacking spinner like Imran Tahir in his side
