Payne and Vince set up consolation win for England

Scorecard

After four consecutive defeats, England Under-19 finally opened their account on the tour of Bangladesh with a five-wicket victory in Fatullah. David Payne, the left-arm seamer, set up the win with a four-wicket haul to keep Bangladesh down to 196 before James Vince led the chase with a half-century.

The hosts chose to bat but failed to post a challenging score. The offspinner Azeem Rafiq kept them in check with 3 for 36 off his ten overs. Bangladesh didn't succeed in putting together big partnerships and their most productive stand was 55 for the third wicket between Nurul Hasan and Tasamul Haque. The captain Mahmudul Hasan top scored with 48 and his innings had only one boundary. Payne cleaned up the tail to finish with 4 for 56.

England had no real problems in the chase, with the first two wickets adding 93. Vince made 71, hitting 11 fours, before he was dismissed in the 30th over, bowled by Saikat Ali. Bangladesh then hit back when Shaker Ahmed struck twice in an over to reduce the visitors to 130 for 5. However, Ateeq Javid and Michael Bates hit unbeaten 30s to guide their side home.
