The end of a one-sided affair. It would perhaps not have been one had Matsikenyeri and Taibu continued playing the way the were. Instead, their team capitulated to spin to lose seven wickets for three runs and make a Sri Lankan win a formality after being bowled out for 127. Sri Lanka, who are without Jayasuriya, took their time to chase down the target, trying to get acclimatised to the conditions in Zimbabwe before the four other games to follow.
Ray Price and Prosper Utseya bowled well but just didn't have enough runs on the board to put pressure on Sri Lanka. Hope the next game turns out to be more competitive.
Prosper Utseya: "We are disappointed not to get a competitive score."
Mahela Jayawardene: "We wanted to win the first game, but were disappointed with the way we started. However, our spinners did a wonderful job."
Muttiah Muralitharan is the Man of the Match.
Well, that's it from here folks. Join us for the second ODI on Saturday. Goodbye
