Kumble is enveloped by a warm hug from Sehwag. One by one, his team-mates come to shake his hand or offer a hug. Tendulkar pats Kumble on his back and has a chat.
And now then ... Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan lift Kumble up in the air and they walk off. Photos are being taken, Kumble gets down now. Gary Kirsten comes down to shake Kumble's hands. And the Indian players led by Kumble walk towards the Aussie line-up led by Ponting. Kumble takes his cap off as he shakes every Australian's hands.
Yet again he is lifted in the air, this time by Laxman and Dravid and off they go around the ground with the other team-mates behind. These are great scenes. Kumbls is laughing.
And Now Dhoni gets into the act. He lifts a laughing Kumble on his shoulder - the passing of the baton couldn't have been done in a better way - and the players go around the ground. Kumble gets down now and salutes the crowd.
More camera lens flash. Kumble has his cap held high in the air and accepts the cheering from the crowd. Behind him is Sachin Tendulkar who is clapping all the while. Laxman too.
That's it. We have had everything in this Test: A flat track, an Indian run fest, the Aussie fightback, and a retirement of a legend.
And the procession led by Kumble continues. His Indian cap is still held high in the air.
Hang on for post-match ceremony.
Ponting: We had backs to our walls from the stumps on the first day. I am very proud the way we struck out. It has been terrific. Few positives: Lee improved and Michael Clarke's hundred. Every one of our batsmen got starts and unfortunately only one got the hundred unlike the Indians. We have to be wary of that. We still got some work to do. We have to make sure that in Nagpur we can't allow 600 runs to be put up. Our bowlers are looking to couple of days off, the rest of us have some home work to do and see how we can get twenty wickets to win the game.
I would just like, on behalf of the Australian team, to congratulate Anil Kumble. He has been a great competitor, one of the modern-day greats. Enjoy your time off the game, mate."
Laxman Man of the Match: "I have always enjoyed playing against them. Unfortunately we couldn't win the game but all of us put a good show. The wicket was slow, it was important to get adjusted to the pace of the wicket. Sachin and Gambhir put up a good partnership after the early wickets. On the third day we missed Anil .. he was unfortunately injured and we couldn't put much pressure on them.
On his 100th Test coming up: It will be a great moment. It's a dream of every cricketer who plays for his country. It has been a long journey. It was nice to score in this game, the last game played by Kumble. He has been a great role model. All of us are really proud to play with him. Even his last wicket, if you see, we were dropping sitters and he took that difficult catch.
Anil Kumble: It's a tough decision when you have played 18 years of cricket and been so competitive. But my body helped making the decision and also, this injury. I had already made the decision yesterday. Esp.. as I knew I won't be hundred percent for the next game. I had already decided to leave the game after this series any way.
Sachin .. rahul, sourav, laxman and the younger lot like Sehwag .. it hasw been great to play with them. And it started with Azhar. I would have liked to finish the series here but I am confident that we can do it in Nagpur. I had the injury on the third day; that put us back a bit but Viru bowled brilliantly. Credit to Australia as well how they batted.
I would be there in Nagpur, be part of the dressing room to see Sourav's last Test, Laxman's 100th Test and hope to see the team win. I would like to thank the million of fans, my family, my brother. Thanks to all those millions of India who live abroad who have cheered me and wished the best for me all the time.
Kumble takes his cap off and waves to the crowd. Thanks for all those great moments, Jumbo!
That's it. Thanks for logging on. See you in the next Test.
