0.1 Would you believe it? Mashrafe Mortaza cleans up Wasim Jaffer! First-ball duck! The off stump has gone for a jog. Super start from Bangladesh. It landed on a perfect length, outside the off stump and cut back in. Jaffer had planted his left foot across and shouldered his arms and looked in shock as the ball jagged back in and crashed into the off stump. Mortaza went on a celebratory run, the crowd cleared their throats and what a fab start for Bangladesh. Rahul Dravid walks in early. Yet again. 0/1
31.2 Mortaza gets the reward for persistence. He hit the deck short of length, just outside off stump and it shaped away a touch and Karthik tried to pull it from there and ended up ballooning it to mid-off. Karthik falls after a well-made fifty. Remember he is playing purely as a batsman. He would be a touch disappointed with the shot selection there but Mortaza won't be complaining. He has kept it on and around off stump this spell, at times cutting it back in, making it hold the line. 124/2
33.1 And hello?! Shahadat strikes immediately. Dravid falls and Bangladeshi fielders go in a huddle. Done in by the extra bounce. Short of length, outside off stump and it kicks up, Dravid goes for a cut, is surprised by the extra bounce and nicks it behind to Masud, the wicketkeeper. Two quick wickets and Bangladesh are back into the game. Sourav Ganguly walks in. 132/3
91.5 Like Ganguly, like Karthik, Tendulkar falls pulling a slightly short delivery that was going outside the off stump. Shahadat strikes. It was short in length and outside the off stump and Tendulkar tried to fetch it from there and presents a dolly at extra cover. 366/5
84.2 And he is gone now! It landed short, moved across Ganguly who went for a pull shot from outside off and it ballooned up towards mid-off. It didn't kick up as much as Ganguly might have anticipated; It was below chest-high. More than the length, he was done in by the decision to go for a pull shot to a delivery outside the off stump. 321/4
98.5 slashed to point and that's also the declaration, wide outside off stump, Dhoni cuts hard off the open face of the bat, doesnt quite get the desired placement to whack it over point, easy catch on waist height to Javed Omar 387/8
94.3 Powar is cleaned up. Ran down the track, had a wild heave at a delivery on the off stump, made no contact but the ball did with the off stump. India slip to 381 for 6. 381/6
96.6 on the middle line, defended to the on side 384/6
97.3 the faintest of edges... Shahadat holds the length back a little outside off, Zaheer is tempted to poke at it, catches the edge and an easy take for Mashud 384/7

5.3 pitched on leg stump, cutting in, Omar gets on the backfoot, tries to turn it away to the on side, gets trapped in front of the stumps, easy decision for the umpire 20/1
15.1 success for Zaheer at last, pitched up just outside off stump, Nafees goes for the drive, fails to get the full face of the bat on it as the ball clips the edge and flies to Tendulkar at second slip who dives to his right, picks it with both hands 47/3
5.5 superb take at slip! short and slashed hard, Bashar tries to whack it over the slips and Tendulkar hangs on to it with ease at second slip 20/2
37.5 short of a length and a touch wide outside off, Saleh cuts hard but gets the placement wrong, Ganguly dives in front at point and pulls off a neat take 116/6
22.3 awesome catch! RP puts his back into one, getting it to lift a bit more than expected off a shorter length, Ashraful looks to keep it down but ends up playing it off the shoulder of the bat, in the air towards gully, where an acrobatic Karthik flings himself full stretch to his left and plucks a beauty! 58/4
36.6 played on, VRV maintains the same stump to stump line and doesn't give Saqibul any room to cut, ends up chopping it onto the stumps 114/5
42.5 VRV goes for the inswinging yorker and succeeds, Mashud tries to flick it away and gets struck on the pads, however replays show that he may have hit it first and there are doubts as to whether it would have gone on to hit the stumps as well 122/7
68.2 yorker fired in on off stump, Mortaza barely had time to to dig that out as the ball swung in and pegged the off stump back 238/10
47.4 tossed up and Rafique goes for another slog, misses, strays out of his crease, Dhoni gathers it and whips off the bails in a flash, Nadir Shah, the third umpire, is called in, Rafique's foot was on the line but he failed to get his bat down, straightforward decision in the end 149/8
65.5 the googly again! pitched just outside off, turning in, Hossain was trapped at the crease as he went back to a delivery he really should have played on the front foot 226/9

0.3 short of a length, cutting in after pitching, Jaffer goes for the pull, gets the top edge and Bashar at mid-on takes it easily running to his right 0/1
16.5 caught at square leg! Karthik was going for his shots and this time he top-edges an attempted pull straight to square leg where Nafees took an easy but well-judged catch. The ball was there to be pulled but it hit high on the bat and Karthik's bottom hand came off the bat. 60/3
4.2 Stunning catch! good length on middle and leg, Dravid tries to turn it to the on side, Rajin Saleh at square leg throws himself to his right and pulls off a stunner , airborne, with one hand 6/2
17.4 he's bowled him! Rafique fired it in on off stump, Tendulkar got down on one knee and tried to play the slog sweep, he got an edge on to it and dragged it back on to leg stump 64/4
21.2 and another one goes! Short ball from Rafique, Ganguly flicks in the air towards deep backward square leg where Nafees, once again, judges a low catch perfectly, India lose another wicket while going for fast runs 78/5

23.1 Rafique strikes once more, Powar charges down the track and ends up yorking himself and gets beaten, Mashud fumbles the take but Powar is so far down the track and so slow in getting back that Mashud has time to recover and whips off the bails with Powar so far out that no referral is needed 93/6

Match Notes

India tour of Bangladesh 2007 News

  • Fitness of fast bowlers a serious concern - Vengsarkar

Dilip Vengsarkar put the onus of keeping the players fit on John Gloster, the team's physio, and Greg King, the trainer

  • Not the kind of domination India expected

Occasional brilliance has failed to mask that Bangladesh have a long way to go before they can consistently challenge bigger teams in Tests, like they have started to in the one-dayers

  • Family ties

Even as Bangladesh were surrendering at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Akram Khan, at 38 years and 206 days, was playing his last organised cricket match

  • Bashar gives up one-day captaincy

Habibul Bashar, the Bangladesh captain, has announced that he will step down as skipper of the one-day team with immediate effect.

  • 'The past is behind us' - Dravid

Rahul Dravid took the Indian series win against Bangladesh in perspective and refused to get too excited about the result
