Update: 0850 GMT: With the rain not letting up, the Match officials have had a word with the two captains and have decided to call off the game at this point - which means Sri Lanka emerge victors under the Duckworth and Lewis Method.

In this version of the game, 5-overs in each innings constitute a match, and the Sri Lankan innings was interrupted when 5.5 overs had been bowled. Under the D/L Method, Sri Lanka should have scored 45 run or more with one wicket down - so Sri Lanka emerge victors by 18 runs in this first Twenty20 International at Wellington.

Sanath Jayasuriya has been declared the Man of the Match for scoring the fastest ever half century in Twenty20 Internationals as also for his 3 wicket haul in the New Zealand innings.

That's it from me Arun Gopalakrishnan and Jamie Alter - we hope you enjoyed our coverage and look forward to your company for the next Twenty20 International that will be played at Auckland on the 26th of December. Cheers!

Interruption: Umpires are conferring now as the rain and wind get worse, here come the covers, and off everyone goes. This is not good news. Jayasuriya's manic innings have faced a roadblock. The crowd is not happy, but we have to be patient now.
