11.4 gone this time! He pushes in one on a good length outside off stump, the corridor of uncertainty, as they say, and Tharanga plays away from the body looking for the cut, and the result is a thick edge into the lap of Ross Taylor at first slip! Mason has his revenge! 50/3
1.4 gone! Bowled! This one pitches short of a good length on middle and leg, Jayasuriya's quickly into position to pull but again gets all tangled up, and the result is that he chops onto the base of leg stump, and he's a goner! 4/1
4.2 cleaned him up! Full, swinging delivery outside off stump, nips in off the seam and Jayawardene just stands there and drives at it, closing the face of the bat, and the ball scoots past off the inside edge onto off stump 14/2
41.4 Sangakkara is run out backing up too far! Silva drove straight back at Adams who stretched one hand out and got fingertips to it, the ball crashed into the stumps at the non-striker's end and Sangakkara was found short by the third umpire 176/5
24.2 bowled him, sweet revenge! Vettori tosses in the arm ball marginally outside off stump, it pitches on a good length and scoots in between Atapattu's tame back-foot drive and castles into off stump! That was a useless shot, you'd have to say, he was neither here nor there, and pays the price 102/4
42.5 caught! Silva came forward and tried to hit that over the off side, he ended up slicing it to Marshall (tell you which one in a moment) at point, simple catch but what a wicket to get at this stage! 177/6
46.6 caught at deep square leg! It was a loose ball, a full toss on leg stump, Dilshan could have smacked that anywhere and he hit it straight to Ross Taylor who was patrolling the fence, Gillespie finishes an excellent over, just two runs off it and a wicket too 192/7

9.1 gone! McCullum comes down the track to one pitched on middle and leg and swinging down, swings and misses, struck on the pads, Maharoof appeals and umpire Baxter lifts the finger. That looked like it was going to carry on down leg stump, according to the naked eye and Hawkeye, and McCullum can feel hard done by that one. Yep, he's livid as he walks off. A bad call. 57/1
25.3 run out! Marshall dabs the ball to mid-on and takes off straightaway for a needless run, Malinga screams in, picks up the ball with one hand and scores a direct hit, Marshall is well short, Marshall is lightning quick between the wickets but that was a suicidal bit of running 121/4
16.2 RUN OUT! Flat outside off stump, Marshall gets forward and pushes it to covers, where Dilshan moves across in a flash from point, picks and throws it back to Sangakkara, and Taylor is caught short of his ground, a great piece of athleticism from Dilshan gets the breakthrough for Sri Lanka 87/2
18.5 Murali! Fired in quick and flat on and around off stump and spins in sharply, Fulton plants the front leg half-forward and plays all around it, they all appeal with vigorous gusto and umpire Davis raises the finger! You have to have a solid technique to survive against this bowler, cant just go thrusting the pad forward 91/3
30.3 bowled him, and how! That was an impeccable yorker at 144kmh, low full and swinging from middle and leg stump to hit the base of off stump, Vettori didn't stand a chance, I don't think many batsmen would have had a chance against that ball 141/6
26.6 done in by the doosra! What a dismissal! That pitched on middle stump and McMillan played for the offspin and closed the face of the bat, it was the doosra and it spun across McMillan and took the outside edge of the bat and Jayawardene took an easy catch at first slip 126/5
37.5 caught and bowled on the second attempt! Marshall steps down the track, he isn't to the pitch of the ball but he tries to chip it past Dilshan, as the ball flies back to the bowler, Dilshan jumps up and parries the ball with both hands, he's quick to recover and grabs it with his right hand, crucial wicket! 175/7

42.4 and this time he's a goner! that pitched in line of middle and went straight through, Adams pushed forward and was hit lo on the pad in front off off and middle, it was pretty plumb 194/8
48.4 caught! Gillespie top-edges a high full toss to Maharoof at mid-off, he's played extremely well till now but perhaps he thought he could have finished it off with a single blow 223/9

Match Notes

  • New Zealand clinch a last-ball thriller

James Franklin's calmness under pressure and Michael Mason's last-ball four clinched a nail-biting one-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Queenstown

  • 'Bowling must improve' - Vettori

Having been spanked to most parts of McLean Park in Napier during the first ODI against Sri Lanka, New Zealand's bowling attack are looking to improve on a bowling performance that saw them give up a hefty target 285 with ten overs to spare.
