Player of the Match

That's all from the presentation ceremony. Time for us to wrap up this commentary blog too. Thank you all for joining us. Congratulations, India. Hard luck, Pakistan. Up next: the semis! Bye.

Dhull, the winning captain: "The wicket was good when I went in. Our openers and one-down batters made it easy for me to hit later. (Bowlers) Rana and Hangargekar are bowling with intent and pace. Even the spinners are doing well. It is tough which bowler to give first, but all of us chat and play. (Parag's offbreak) He does all kinds of offbreak. That combination is good. (Knockout next) Atmosphere in team is good because we are all winning together. (Support staff) We are sticking to the plans so they'll be happy. Coming up, maybe we need to have more intent in middle overs... maybe we can bowl opponents out faster then. (Bangladesh game) We'll take it match-by-match."

Haris, the losing captain: "We didn't read the wicket and played some rash shots. We needed some partnerships. We didn't do well with the bat. I was taking risks because if it came off, it would've been good for our teams. We need to finish well in batting unit, as a bowling unit we'll be doing well. (Semi-final against SL) They are the host but we are here for the Asia Cup. We'll do better inshallah."

Sudharsan is the Player of the Match: "Focusing more on risk-free runs. Focusing on ones and twos, and reducing dot balls. Against spinners, it was dicey and tricky wicket to bat. It was better to face against fast bowlers. (The target of 200 first time) We are just reacting to the situation in front of us. (Opening with Abhishek) Fantastic. I have admired Abhishek when he was in IPL and I wasn't."

8.28pm This was meant to be a game between two unbeaten sides who also happen to be big rivals. But on the day, India totally outplayed Pakistan. Barring one half-century stand for Pakistan and a fighting 48 from Qasim, no real positives for them. Suthar's three-for gave Pakistan the early jolt, Hangargekar backed him up with a five-wicket haul, and then the chase was simple. Jose with a fifty from No. 3, Dhull was some crisp shots, Abhishek hit some glorious drives, and of course, B Sai Sudharsan, who is making a habit of doing well in big games. The IPL final not so long ago, and today against Pakistan an unbeaten ton.

Sowmya : "Have been following Sai Sudarshan ever since he started making waves in the Chennai league. He has always improved at every level. Very humble boy. Wish he plays for India sooner !" -- my colleague Rajan Raj has been saying this to me for over a year now!

Hari: "That's the way to stamp class - well done India A"

Shahnawaz Dahani to Sai Sudharsan, SIX, and he finishes it off in style! India beat Pakistan by eight wickets. Slot ball around off. Sudharsan pumps a six over long off and that's game, set and match. As soon as he hit the six, Sudharsan looked down, turned around, and then took the helmet out. A very gentle "thumbs up" to the dugout, and the teams shake hands.

Shahnawaz Dahani to Sai Sudharsan, no run, another short ball. More in the off-stump line. Sudharsan backs away to slap it behind point. Misses. Both batter and non-striker ask if that's one bouncer for the over or maybe even a height no-ball. Looks like the square-on umpire doesn't believe so.
