Quinton de Kock is Player of the Match: "It was a good night. Just glad to get a win under our belts. It feels good to get back to winning ways. This week, we chatted about how we want to take this ODI team going forward. Really proud of the boys, it's one thing speaking about it and another bringing it out onto the field. [Two spinners] It's always nice having an option like that. [Captaincy] To be honest, it's only one game. We'll see how it goes in the near future, hopefully it keeps on being good for me. Yes I did [feel the responsibility when batting], I read and understood the situation. With that extra bit of responsibility, it just helped me. [Bavuma] We understood it was quite difficult to get boundaries, that running between the wickets was the way to go about it. It was great. Time to have a little break and put our feet up, have a little celebration."

James: "I was seriously concerned that the added responsibility would detract from QDK's batting... I stand corrected!"

Time for the presentation. Eoin Morgan: "We were way off the mark. South Africa completely outplayed us in all departments. We've got no excuses, we didn't adapt to conditions. Every batsman apart from Joe Denly and Chris Woakes failed to get going. Full credit to them, they've started the series very well. [Misread conditions?] We lacked the adaptation to the skill level that was needed. We lost wickets in clusters, up until that Woakes and Denly partnership. Having let the guys get themselves in, it was a struggle to get things back. [Young players] They learned a huge amount. Failure is a huge platform to try and catapult you forward and learn from your mistakes. It's not all crash, bang, wallop. I think we need to continue to learn like we have done in the past... we were outplayed because we were off the mark."

8.25pm So that 173-run stand between Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma proved crucial, sucking the life out of England as they looked to put the squeeze on and breaking the back of the chase. Tabraiz Shamsi was superb with the ball in the first innings, and South Africa were live-wires in the infield, with van der Dussen's run-out of Root the highlight. Denly fought back well with Chris Woakes for support, but it proved futile in the end as the hosts made the Newlands pitch look much easier than England had earlier. The De Kock Era starts with a victory!

Doc: "Well this didn't go to plan! But we'll take it in SA, by golly we will!! "

Not quite happening for England today. Could have put the squeeze on and really attacked at the start of that over, but Jordan strayed down the leg side and the field sat back, letting SA pick off the runs
