10.30pm: Phew, so much for being a dead rubber! Right, that's the end of the series and that's all from us. On behalf of Vishal Dikshit, this is Ankur Dhawan signing out.

Tim Southee is the man of the series: Credit to Sri Lanka for the way they played today. I guess he's (Malinga) done it in the past, not much our guys could have done with it. Nice to have a bit of a partnership towards the end, wish we could have gone a little longer but Sri Lanka deserved it.

Lasith Malinga, needless to say, is the man of the match: Last two games we didn't get through, people were waiting for it, we tried for them. Feeling was normal, tried to bowl my wicket-taking ball, second time it's happened, I'm really happy. No pressure in captaining and leading the attack. We had a tough time in the country for four-five months, would like to thank New Zealand for coming here and playing cricket.

Kusal Perera: He's a legend (Malinga), bowling superb line and length at pace. I can see the movement well as keeper, I thought it was hit in line and so we went for the review (Rutherford's lbw)

10.08pm: Absolute carnage! What looked like a sub-par total was rendered irrelevant by the genius of Malinga, as he rolled the years back with an encore of his four in four against South Africa in the 2007 World Cup. And then, as if to say I'm only getting better, he added another. There were four golden ducks in the New Zealand innings, FOUR, can you imagine! But of course, that's bound to be when you have a hat-trick, Malinga's second in T20Is, and by then the 100th T20I wicket was almost forgotten. Needless to say, despite Southee's best efforts, New Zealand failed to pull themselves out of the rut, suffering their only defeat in the T20Is, a dramatic one albeit.

Sandakan to Rance, OUT, full from around the wicket, he attempts the sweep, trying to take a straight one from the stumps and that's the end, since New Zealand have no reviews left.

Sandakan to Southee, no run, full outside off, misses the reverse sweep, there's an appeal for a stumping, the third umpire is consulted. Southee's backfoot certainly lifted, and it was very very close but it appeared grounded just in the nick of time as the bails came off

Sandakan to Southee, no run, length around off, Southee shapes to slog him out of the park, changes his mind and defends off the backfoot, the ball nearly rolls back onto the stumps, but Southee kicks it away comically
