5:05pm That brings us to the end of our coverage for today. If you missed out on any of the action, Firdose Moonda's report should have you covered. We will be back tomorrow, nice and early and until then, this is goodbye from Ranjith, Srinidhi and myself. Take care, everyone!
5pm No prizes for guessing who would have enjoyed this day more. South Africa won the toss, chose to bat and never looked back. A twin-ton headline act by de Zorzi and Stubbs, who dominated proceedings and also buckled down whenever they needed to. de Zorzi was the first to get to his maiden Test century, soon followed by Stubbs. Stubbs was dismissed a few balls after getting to his landmark but de Zorzi stood firm, ending the day unbeaten on 141.
Not much went to plan for Bangladesh. They did not make the most of whatever minimal chances they created and on a pitch that was pretty good for batting, they could not tie South Africa down. Taijul was the only bowler among the wickets and if they are to get their teeth stuck into this contest, they will need a bit more from their bowlers tomorrow.
4:57pm The light meter has had its say, and the umpires have pulled the plug on day one. It is stumps on day one, and Bangladesh's day of toil has finally come to an end.
The second new ball is available now and has been handed over to the umpires. The light meter has been handed over too. And it looks like Bangladesh are taking the second new ball. Mehidy to start off
