1.30pm: That's a wrap for the first Test, and Australia will leave Brisbane feeling pretty rapt after a thumping win. England haven't come from behind to win in an Ashes in Australia since 1954-55, so they've got their work cut out for them - much rests on the day-night Test in Adelaide, starting next Thursday, and with the potential for James Anderson and Stuart Broad to make a delayed entry to the fray. Postman Pat will be hoping his side delivers more of the same. We'll be back for that, of course, but plenty more to come on this Test - so stick around for that. 1.18pm: Time for the presentations, starting with Joe Root: "Frustration, we worked really hard to get ourselves back in the game last night and we knew how important it was to try and get through to the new ball unscathed. If we carried that partnership forward we could have given ourselves an opportunity. You saw how the pitch was playing, there was sideways movement and the cracks were appearing. It's a shame we couldn't get through that initial period. [Selection] We wanted variation in our attack, to change the pace and move through different gears. Easy with hindsight [to criticise], but can't create as many chances as we did and put them down. Similar with the bat, [29-4] is not the way to start a Test series. But we know where we need to improve, and the way we responded in the second innings showed fight which will stand us in good stead. [Leach travails] Jack's a fine spinner, he's shown what an instrumental part he can play, and I'm sure he will in the series moving forward. Important in a five-match series not to feel too sorry for ourselves, relish the challenge to go out there and try and get one back. There are good things to take, most importantly the bowling effort. Created chances and felt in the game for a long time. Need to learn from this and come back stronger."

The winning skipper, Pat Cummins: "I really enjoyed it, a lot of things did go right, probably from the toss - overcast conditions, wicket had a bit in it, turn up day two and it's blue skies. So someone was smiling on me. Really proud of everyone, complete performance, the bowlers did their thing, then Marnus and Davey's partnership and the way Travis played. Sign of a positive, brave side. I was really happy about how everyone stuck to it, we bowled without luck yesterday. Turned up positive and not thinking about too much other than trying to get that breakthrough. [Head] That's why we want him in the side, he can take a game away in a couple of hours. He showed what he can do, bright future, hopefully he's away now. [Hazlewood] Bit sore yesterday, trying to get him through as it's a five-match series. Didn't want to break him yesterday but pulled up okay today. [Warner] When we had 20 to get we couldn't find him. He's fine, didn't want to risk him, think he'll be fine for Adelaide."

Travis Head is named Man of the Match, but BT Sport don't think their UK viewership wants to hear from him, so you'll have to check back later and see what he said in the post-match pressers. Ah, Gnasher's grabbed him off Fox: "The staff and Pat, JL, were fantastic with their communication, gave me real clarity. Great to get the nod, was a fantastic week and a great starting point for us. 1.10pm: Marnus Labuschagne strolls back in alongside Harris, having just strolled out. The Gabba is back in business. A win in his first Test as captain for Pat Cummins, and Australia grab first-mover advantage at their traditional Ashes stronghold. They might have been beaten by India here at the start of the year, but the Poms were never going to get a sniff. From Joe Root's decision to bat on the first morning onwards, pretty much everything went awry for England - although there was an oasis of calm while Root and Dawid Malan were batting yesterday. Rumbled under cloudy skies for 147 (including a wicket off the very first ball of the series), they were then roasted in the Brisbane heat, with Travis Head's 152 pretty much putting a fork in the contest. Making Australia bat again was about as good as it got after that, and they'll have plenty to work on to try and be competitive as the series moves to Adelaide

Neil Visser: "England have been pathetic this year. India rolled them over twice and I have a feeling this series will be 5-0 to Australia. Only 4 wins and some massive defeats."

"Is over rate calculated for overall match or per innings? If it is per match, it would have been better if they bowl Leach and Root to cover first innings slow over rate, maybe?" It's across the match, Bharath. But not really enough scope defending 20 to make up time from the first innings - so we await their punishment on that front
