There we have it. A comprehensive win for the hosts after the honours were even after both teams' first innings. Shanto went big with the bat and found great support from the rest of the batting group. Taijul continued from where he left off to finish with a ten-for in the match. They're off the mark in the new WTC cycle. Join us for the Dhaka Test, where they'll have the chance to seal a historic series win. For now, it's goodbye from me, Ekanth, Sudarshanan, Abhimanyu and Srinidhi, who've all been on comms, and and our scorers, Chandan Duorah and M Venkat Raghav.
Galib: "I didn't know that the next match is in Dhaka. Hope the pitch is not the traditional one. This Sylhet pitch was awesome! " Dhaka pitch is more spinner friendly if I'm not wrong. Fully agree that this was a great pitch.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh captain: Credit goes to all the players, especially Taijul, Nayeem, Shoriful and Mehidy. Everyone enjoyed this match, we weren't thinking about the result. As youngsters, this was an opportunity to do well for our team and win it. We could've scored 50-odd runs more in the first innings but the bowlers did a great job. Batsmen will need to take more responsibility in the next game, that'll help. Thanks to God for giving me the opportunity to captain here. Half job done, everyone looking forward to the next Test.
Taijul Islam, POTM gets a cheer as he collects the cheque (from Shamim Chowdhury's translations) He's pleased to represent his country. Ten-wicket haul has lifted his spirit. Winning confidently takes them in the right frame of mind. He needed support from his team-mates which he got, things are gelling well.
Tim Southee, NZ captain: Disappointed but credit to Bangladesh. They played well. Our bowling group needs to create pressure for longer, batters need to stitch more partnerships, be better for longer. It was a pretty good wicket. There was spin which was expected in this part of the world. We have a couple of days to work on a couple of things for Dhaka, which will be a different surface. Everyone's striving to improve their game and that's what we ask from our guys. Guys need to contribute all the way down, nice that Kyle and Ish did that.
Shorif Uddin: "So who is going to win MOTM? Centurian Shanto on his test debut as Captain or 10 wicket holder Taijul? I am going with Taijul. " We'll find out soon in the presentation. Stay tuned.
Joy: "Surprising how similar Shanto and Williamson's wagon wheels are!"
Bpagur : "Good relief for BD fans after a frustrating ODI WC."
10:57pm It's been a long wait but one that ends in a triumphant win for Bangladesh. They all but sealed it yesterday, sending seven New Zealand batters back cheaply. They had no answers to Taijul, who exhibited the virtues of holding a consistent length to use the turn that the pitch offered. Daryl Mitchell, the only specialist batter who survived, started positively today but couldn't keep going, thanks to Taijul, who had sweeping aerially to backward square. Southee had a good cameo and Sodhi fought valiantly but it was 150 runs too many at the end. A couple of scooby snacks for Taijul at the end to nail a six-for.

And who has taken the most wickets caught and bowled in Tests, and ODIs?
He had only played 23 Tests before Sylhet, and was captaining for the first time in the format, but there was no hint of newbie about his leadership
"There's many things you can look back on and as a side, you're just looking to improve and learn from this"
Fans had turned on the team after a poor World Cup, and the big stars were missing, but the players didn't lose their belief
