- BATSMENRBM4s6sSR7.1 sliced and diced, Henry gets his man! Crawley had been looking to fight his way out of trouble, but ends up playing all around one to fall to Henry for the fifth time in Tests. It was a lovely nut, to be fair: scrambled seam, hint of movement away, hurtling back through the gate after pitching to hit middle and leg. Henry right on it so far today 21/23.2 gottim! Duckett pushes at one going across him again, and a thick outside edge is scooped low at second slip! Henry has been right on the money from the start and he makes the breakthrough in the fourth over, Latham showing safe hands this time. Duckett might well have been better served by employing the Crawley method there - instead he looked to defend and ends up walking off for a duck 12/112.5 short, gloved behind! Smith gets another, and England's mini-recovery is choked off. Didn't foresee the bouncer getting many wickets on a morning like this in Wellington - but Bethell got into a tangle looking to pull and only managed to scuff it through to Blundell, tumbling to his right 43/410.1 Mitchell grabs a screamer! Root goes flirting at a wide one, and England are in the muck three down. NZ not dropping 'em today! Back of a length and curving away, Root had an ill-advised dabble and got a fat, fast outside edge. Mitchell seemed to see it late, but stuck up his right paw and held on while almost horizontal at first slip. Black Caps bouncing at the Basin this morning 26/352.1 Gottim! Full on off stump, Brook pushes to short midwicket and sets off for a run, but Smith is excellent running across in his follow-through, gathering and throwing down the stumps at the striker's end as Brook realises too late and is well short of his ground as he turns back belatedly 259/739.1 top-edged and taken! O'Rourke finally breaks the stand for NZ. Pope almost went in similar fashion in O'Rourke's previous over, but this time there was no escape. Ravindra took a moment to realise it was his catch, before ambling across from short leg to pouch the ball. Another sprightly counterattack from Pope, although he'll have wanted to go on 217/541.5 full on middle stump, Stokes jams his bat down as it stays low and gets and outside edge straight to Tom Latham in the cordon! It straightened up on Stokes and he was undone 222/653.4 back of a length, Woakes throws the bat... Blundell thinks there was a nick on this. No one else seemed to appeal, but Latham has taken his keeper's word on trust and reviews. If there was a sound, there's not much else it could have been - and sure enough, UltraEdge has picked up the edge! Adrian Holdstock will reverse his decision and England are nine down 275/952.4 edged and swallowed! Extra lift on fourth stump and Atkinson can only fence the ball to gully for a sharp catch by Phillips. That really flew off the shoulder of the bat. NZ making no mistake in the field today 263/854.4 slugged leg side... into the buckets of Will O'Rourke! Carse goes looking for the big hit, didn't get enough on this heave across the line and it's well held diving forwards at fine leg. Fourth wicket for Smith and England have been bowled out in a hurry on day one at the Basin 280/10Extras22 (b 1, lb 7, nb 2, w 12)TOTAL280 all out (54.4 Overs, RR: 5.12, 254 minutes)Fall of wickets: 1-12 (Ben Duckett, 3.2 ov), 2-21 (Zak Crawley, 7.1 ov), 3-26 (Joe Root, 10.1 ov), 4-43 (Jacob Bethell, 12.5 ov), 5-217 (Ollie Pope, 39.1 ov), 6-222 (Ben Stokes, 41.5 ov), 7-259 (Harry Brook, 52.1 ov), 8-263 (Gus Atkinson, 52.4 ov), 9-275 (Chris Woakes, 53.4 ov), 10-280 (Brydon Carse, 54.4 ov)

- BATSMENRBM4s6sSR14.2 England make amends! Of sorts. Stokes bangs it in on a length outside off, Latham offers an angled bat face and the ball ricochets off the bottom edge onto his stumps! England get a wicket having given one up just moments ago 53/25.6 full, inviting... and Conway flashes to second slip! Just enough juice in the surface to take the ball fractionally away as he launched into a drive. After a steady start, Atkinson picks up the first wicket of the day for England 18/121.2 great take by Pope behind the stumps! Length ball, nibbles back a touch off the seam and draws an outside edge which flies through to the keeper, diving sharply to his right to take the catch. 74/417.5 full on middle, and a spectacular catch! Inside edge onto the thigh pad sails towards short midwicket, Brydon Carse running in, dives forward and holds on to and absolute beauty there! He moved really quickly to get there and then kept it off the ground as he sprawled at full stretch. 64/323.2 136.9kph short ball, good bounce and movement as Mitchell is caught down the leg side! He's cramped up trying to fend it away and gloves it to the keeper. NZ are all at sea here at 79 for 5, still trailing by 201 79/529.6 pinned in front, given! O'Rourke isn't going to hang around, despite Phillips trying to persuade him to use a review. Adrian Holdstock seemed pretty convinced, the ball zipping past the inside edge of his forward defensive to hit the back leg. Would have poleaxed middle, according to ball-tracking 96/729.4 jaffa! Pings the top of off, very similar to the (no-)ball that did for Williamson yesterday. No issues about the front foot this time and Carse breaks through with his third of the innings. Blundell had shaped up nicely for 12 balls this morning but he could attempt to defend that 100 times and probably not make contact. Perfect length, sidestepping the straight blade, and pop goes the weasel 95/634.3 Smith plays on trying to leave! Another cheap dismissal, having looked more than capable despite his low billing. Probing length from Atkinson and Smith made his call fractionally too late, the ball cannoning off the bottom edge as he started to raise it out of the line. Middle stump flattened 125/834.4 throat ball, fended to gully! Henry does an Abe Simpson and has to walk straight off for a golden duck. Fierce delivery from Atkinson, especially for a tailender. He was turning away and shutting his eyes, ends up splicing a looping catch to Duckett, well taken low down 125/934.5 full, straight, pinned him! Atkinson celebrates the hat-trick! Southee has reviewed but I think this is curtains for the great Black Cap. England are already walking off having seen it once. Smashing into middle and leg, Rod Tucker raises his finger again. What a superb bluff... Gus Atkinson has only been playing Test cricket six months, but he already has a 12-for, a hundred (both at Lord's) and now a Test hat-trick! 125/10Extras5 (lb 1, nb 4)TOTAL125 all out (34.5 Overs, RR: 3.58, 170 minutes)Fall of wickets: 1-18 (Devon Conway, 5.6 ov), 2-53 (Tom Latham, 14.2 ov), 3-64 (Rachin Ravindra, 17.5 ov), 4-74 (Kane Williamson, 21.2 ov), 5-79 (Daryl Mitchell, 23.2 ov), 6-95 (Tom Blundell, 29.4 ov), 7-96 (Will O’Rourke, 29.6 ov), 8-125 (Nathan Smith, 34.3 ov), 9-125 (Matt Henry, 34.4 ov), 10-125 (Tim Southee, 34.5 ov)

- BATSMENRBM4s6sSR1.2 gottim, Henry bags and tags Crawley again! Full and met with a full-blooded flick, but straight to Devon Conway at midwicket! Crawley can't believe it, I'm not sure Henry can, either. Not the vintage fast-bowler's dismissal but they all count. Well held by Conway going to his left, because that was travelling 9/141.2 another one falls shy of his ton! Back of a length, well outside off but it keeps coming onto him. As Duckett jams the bat down it shoots off the bottom edge and into off stump 211/337.6 and it's not to be! Outside off, on a length, Bethell's attempted drive results in a thick outside edge going through to the keeper! 196/282.3 edged, and Blundell hangs on! Superb diving catch off a thick deflection... and with that, England have declared! Root and Stokes charge off, all set to begin their effort in the field. O'Rourke finishes with 1 for 104, scandalous figures given how well he bowled 427/662.1 Phillips has a wicket! Tossed up on middle and off, Brook skips down and lofts this down the ground, contact wasn't perfect though and it hangs in the air before dropping into the waiting hands of Will O'Rourke at long off 306/469.1 back of a length and taken! Pope flashes his hands at it outside off, gets a thick edge which sails to slip and Daryl Mitchell pouches the catch moving to his right 327/5Extras11 (lb 2, nb 1, w 8)TOTAL427/6d (82.3 Overs, RR: 5.17, 368 minutes)Fall of wickets: 1-9 (Zak Crawley, 1.2 ov), 2-196 (Jacob Bethell, 37.6 ov), 3-211 (Ben Duckett, 41.2 ov), 4-306 (Harry Brook, 62.1 ov), 5-327 (Ollie Pope, 69.1 ov), 6-427 (Joe Root, 82.3 ov)

- BATSMENRBM4s6sSR9.2 wow! Carse into the action with a spectacular return catch! Back of a length, on leg stump, Latham tries to work it to leg, gets an edge and Carse, ever alert, moves against the direction of travel to his right on his follow-through to take a great one-handed grab 33/32.1 bowled through the gate, Woakes on the board! That's a beauty, Conway done by the wobble seam as he pushes forward in defence only to leave a fateful gap. Nips through to shiver the timbers. Not a great defensive shot, but the perfect delivery to kiss the top of off. England have the first of ten needed 9/16.6 Woakes gets another! Length ball, outside off, draws a faint edge from Williamson and Pope does the rest behind the stumps. Feels like Woakes set that up nicely with a similar delivery in this over and he gets the reward. England need eight more 25/213.6 gottim! Ravindra throws his head back furious with himself. Tempted by the width outside off, he throws the bat at it and gets a healthy edge through to Pope. Carse has, two, England have four 59/431.2 and result! On a length, angled in, draws the forward defence, a hint of movement off the seam to kiss the outside edge and Pope collects behind the stumps. Moments after the drinks break, England have their breakthrough 106/548.3 gottim... a freak dismissal ends a freak knock! Blundell shaped to scoop leg side, Pope tried to get a glove to it, meanwhile Duckett scampered around in anticipation from slip to palm the ball up and then take the catch at the second attempt! Blundell will have to go, applauded from the field after a blistering hundred. Bashir eventually gets his man 237/734.6 fuller, quicker, keeps low and slides through the gate to rattle middle and off! He backs away to defend and is done. Short, eventful stay for Phillips 141/652.3 short ball, caught behind! Smith advances and swivels on the pull, sending a thick edge to Pope, diving to his left behind the stumps. Such a muted celebration, barely a shout and an understated raise of the finger from Stokes. So ends some strong and entertaining resistance by Smith 254/950.4 Henry holes out, England close in! Short ball, slogged across the line, it hangs in the air out towards deep midwicket... Bethell is waiting under it, has to put in the dive at the last moment, but holds on. Stokes strikes with his fourth ball. Where was he an hour ago?? 247/854.2 short again, and gone! Southee swings big but picks out Chris Woakes at deep midwicket!
