Player of the Match

Right. That brings us to the end of our coverage for today. On behalf of Sreshth and Thilak, this is Shashank saying goodbye.

Tamim Iqbal: "Happy with the way we fought. Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah were superb. Young Afif batted superbly. We did a decent job scoring 250 because it was two-paced. Definitely good to get back to winning ways. Losing is no fun, we lost 10 games across formats in a row. Winning is happiness. Still got two games, hope to continue this."

Mushfiqur Rahim is Player of the Match for his 84 off 87 balls. "It wasn't an easy wicket to bat on. When Shakib, Liton got out early, there was pressure. Tamim batted well, allowed me to take my time. And then Riyad bhai was superb. I am not a big guy, not a Pollard or Russell, I stuck to my strengths, took my time. I had to keep one end safe and that's what I did. The finishing touch from Riyad and Afif was superb. These conditions aren't ideal to play, it's not just hot, the humidity takes a lot out of you but credit to our players."

Kusal Perera: "Not good to end on the losing side, but there are a lot of positives. Wanindu was superb. We bowled well. Bangladesh are a good side, our bowlers aren't experienced but they did well to restrict them to 257. Hasaranga is highly-rated, he backs his strength and to bowl 10 overs in these conditions was a great effort. The top-order batsmen need to bat at least 30-35 overs. Isuru and Wanindu gave us a chance, but credit to their bowlers. We have two games and we have to come back strongly."

9.00pm Three wickets for Mustafizur, but it was Mehidy who broke the back of Sri Lanka's chase with key strikes in the middle. Wanindu Hasaranga threatened to pull off a coup but had little support at the other end.

Where did Bangladesh turn it around? It was in the middle overs, when Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah put on a 107-run fifth-wicket partnership to help raise Bangladesh to 257 for 6. It was a proper exhibition of risk-free cricket: the pair only hit six fours and two sixes between them, preferring to accumulate safely against the spinners through the middle overs, after having come together with the team in mild trouble.

Mushfiqur put together the more impressive individual innings of the two, hitting 84 off 87, while Mahmudullah made 54 off 76. Earlier, Tamim, the captain, led the way with a half-century off his own.

Mustafizur Rahman to Chameera, OUT, that's the end of that. Mustafiz goes full, rolls his fingers over the seam. The ball wobbles away a bit, he looks to heave across the line but ends up getting a leading edge which Saifuddin pouches safely running to his left at backward point. Bangladesh lead the series 1-0.
