Player of the Match

9.03pm So that's your lot tonight, thanks for joining us, see you across the Pennines for the decider on Sunday!

Time for the presentations.

The Player of the Match is Sam Curran. "Any time I go to bat, I bat with a batter's mindset, I'm happy down the order and try to chip in like today. I've been non-stop since school so enjoyed the break [during back injury]. The message is always take your positive option. The way Liam was striking against Heinrich was pretty impressive. I want to be adaptable and do my best."

Keshav Maharaj: "It was a score that could be chaseable but we never adapted. We needed a good foundation, some questions about some dismissals but it's back to the drawing board. I enjoy the captaincy, but [dealing with defeat] it's part and parcel of the job

Jos Buttler: " Delighted with the win, the guys played in the fashion we want to play with as a team, can we do it better, absolutely. I tell the guys to back themselves, take the risks, impose selves on the opposition. Me and Liam tried to get a rebuild going, Liam and Sam Curran had the bravery to take on the options. The guys are bowling brilliantly, Topley and Dave with the early wickets. Jonny said batting in the powerplay wouldn't be easy if we held our lengths. We haven't fired with the bat in white-ball cricket but we know how dangerous we can be when we do."

8.49pm So, that's the end of a curious contest. England's total of 201 proved to be more than enough in the end, thanks largely to two bursts of speed from Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran, whose brief flurries of big-hitting proved decisive. Dwaine Pretorius's career-best haul was trumped from the moment South Africa slumped to 6 for 4 in reply, with Reece Topley once again immense in the powerplay. With rain lurking, Buttler turned to his spinners to rush through the overs, and they responded with five wickets between them. Comprehensive in the end.

Sampath has the stat: "Four of top 7 lowest totals vs England in men's ODIs have come at Old Trafford."
