Scorer: Binoy George | Commentator: Aaditya Narayan
And that's all we have for you from a record-breaking ILT20 evening in Sharjah. There's a double-header tomorrow. So do join us for that. Until then, on behalf of our scorer Binoy George, this is Aaditya Narayan signing off. Take care, stay safe, goodbye!
Avishka Fernando is the player of the match, obviously (Bhanuka Rajapaksa is translating for him): Wanted to play my natural game. Thank God for what happened. The wicket was nice to bat on, when they scored 200, had to play positively, came naturally, and thankful for that. Didn't realise that he'd broken the fastest 50 record, happy with the performances.
Tim Southee: He (Avishka) got off the plane this morning. There's plenty to improve on for us, the fielding and with the ball, but it's always easy to do that after a win. It was a good wicket. If you executed with the ball, it made it slightly harder. Shai Hope played beautifully. Fernando for us was outstanding. To see guys come in and do well shows the depth of the squad.
Sikandar Raza: I thought it was a very good total. You normally don't see 202 in Sharjah, I was pretty confident it's a good score and we should have been able to win this game. Shai has been a fantastic addition. Hopefully, the other players around him come to the party. The wicket got better late on. The dew came on. It was tough. The cutters weren't holding in the wicket either. Our catching... Avishka played really, but if we'd taken the first chance... We are coming to a stage where momentum is key.
10:06pm: Wow, what a chase that was. It is the first time any team has chased 200+ in the ILT20. This was a different Sharjah pitch from what we've seen in the last few years. There wasn't much spin. The bounce was rather consistent. Batters could hit through the line as they pleased. And that is exactly what Avishka Fernando did. He made 81 off 27 balls. That was the headline act, as the Warriorz chased down 202 with 11 balls to spare. Johnson Charles got them off to a quick start in the powerplay, and then Luke Wells played a nice cameo at the end to finish it off. The Warriorz remain unbeaten in the ILT20 against Dubai Capitals, who have work to do, especially on the fielding front, they dropped four catches tonight. The Warriorz weren't much better on the field, but they had that X-Factor performance from Avishka, which has taken them to an easy win.
Naib will bowl again, as the highest successful run chase in the ILT20 looms on us.
END OF OVER:18 | 13 Runs | SW: 198/5 (4 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 11.00, RRR: 2.00)
- Keemo Paul1 (4b)
- Luke Wells27 (16b)
- Olly Stone4-0-50-1
- Dushmantha Chameera4-0-30-3
